If Ron Paul's the only way to un-fuck America, I prognosticate that America's still going to be fucked for four years after 2008.

Why is it this easy to get shroomers on a bandwagon?

that's the whole point is to get people to vote for him haha yeah we're gonna be fucked many many years after 2008 but it's one way to make it better without electing another asshole like george w. bush. for the record i'm not jumping on the bandwagon i've been into politics for quite some time now and i personally like Ron Paul why is that jumping on the bandwagon?

I posted a link to the Digg site on Ron Paul's Myspace and Facebook.

Soo hopefully that'll help some.

And the rest of you? Or is this going to be a write in campaign. And what about the other candidate du jour, Mike Gravel? I see him stealing boatloads (well, dinghyloads anyway) of votes from Ronny. How are you guys gonna stop that juggernaut? Shades of Ross Perot and Ralph Nader.

Chill--talking about the group of generally politically-uneducated people posting in excited response to this thread. I would be incredibly surprised if half the people exciting themselves over this are actually registered Republicans in the first place.

In short: Why does a candidate who has less than one percent of the Republican Party's vote in the primaries have a complete lock on the Shroomery Republicans? :crazy2:

Right, which is why he will never win the Republican nomination. I'm serious, if you find a candidate on the Republican ticket who actually seems like an intelligent secular civil libertarian, you have found someone who will never achieve the support of his or her own party.

i've decided i like this guy. if he makes a statement on social security, i'll propose to marry him. that's one of the biggest mismanagements of money ever. u invest 15% of your life's earnings and receive a check every month that can cover gas or cig's and after taking in that much and paying out that little, it's going bankrupt. what a fucking joke. i could keep that money and invest it properly and retire a millionaire in 20 years.

Social security has the potential to be a functional system again if it's not gutted, but people expect it to work wonders, making money appear out of nowhere--just like you expect to be a millionaire automatically by depositing 15% of your funds (is that the "columbian druglord" investment portfolio? Because I might have to check that out). Magical thinking.

BUT this thread is supposed to be about that candidate who won't get elected or even seriously considered for nomination, so I guess we should keep it on topic.

fer cereal. people tend to forget that this is a privately owned and run website, not some amazing experiment in internet-based participatory democracy. if you have some serious issue with this, feel free to not frequent this website & create your own.

back to the topic at hand, am i mistaken here, or is it the case that the vast majority of states require you to be a registered party member to vote in that party's primaries? i know a couple of states allow registered independents to select a single primary and vote in that, but this isn't the case with most states, is it? while i'd definitely agree that Ron Paul would be the most pleasant republican nominee and potential president, i'm not about to register with a party whose politics i really tend not to support, just to cast a vote in the primaries for the most favorable candidate aiming for that party's nomination. :ohwell: good luck anyhow!

Bingo. "Hey, this guy is the least Republican Republican there is! I'd better become a Republican just to vote for him, to no practical effect."

But yes, I don't see how anyone could actually sit there and complain that a Shroomery mod wants to use the site to further his political preferences. It's his site, bro--you can put whatever candidate you want in your signature, and he's not going to ban you for it... aaaand even if he did he'd still be more or less in the right, since this is not some publicly-funded all-is-fair circlejerk situation here.

Are any of us now able to put a sticky on all the forums advertising our preferred candidates?
If not, why not & if so then where do you draw the line (it's ok for U.S.A. presidential elections but not for others, ok for admins but not others, etc).
I get the impression that none of this has been considered & that Ythan's just advertising Mr Paul with no established shroomery policy on this. Fair enough, but I'm sure we all know a number of candidates for our respective elections we'd like to advertise (stand up LCA) so if this is to be allowed (outside of the politics activism and law forum) to avoid a mass of contradictory political ads therereally needs to be a policy on this.

There doesn't need to be a policy on shit.

The man runs a website, and he wants to promote the candidate he supports. There is nothing wrong with that.

This is like the homosexuals suing the Christian site eHarmony to get the "man seeking man" and "woman seeking woman" option put in.

I agree. If that was not already obvious by my previous posts. It may not be exactly shoving the guy down my throat, I'll agree yes saying that is exaggeration a bit, but other users should be allowed the same privilege at least.

Does the topic of homosexuality need to be brought up with everything? I simply fail to see how eHarmony and the Shroomery relate, because I think the proposal is much different. He does run a website, but the line that needs to be drawn is this, can all persons mods & admins make political statements forum wide? Why can't other users do this? What would make sense is if the *Shroomery* advocated an individual candidate, but not singular persons. I've tried to explain this several times, but no one seems to understand the difference. I'm just saying users shouldn't be allowed to abuse privilege to make a statement when other users cannot, unless the organization itself advocates it.
