Don't buy those kits. Get a good knife, a good compass, and a good set of flint and sparks. AND KNOW HOW TO USE THEM. You're bordering on desperate here... think it through.

Get a Military Issue Ka-Bar. I've got one that'd been around since Korea or 'nam and it's still the best knife I've ever owned.


I can't say I have experience with the new ones, but i can't imagine them being any less awesome.

For 20 bucks it's hard to beat a Cold Steel Bushman. Since the handle is hollow you can keep stuff in there even though it's not meant for it.

i love my gerber knives. such great quality. also have one of their original multi-tools. pretty much best one ever.
