5 days and no mycelium yet, what'd I do wrong?

Hey guys, this is my first grow and I'm following the PF Tek from fungifun. I am using fine grain vermiculite and whole wheat flower, those are the only 2 differences. The jars were pc'ed at 15psi for 45 minutes and sat over night to cool down. Since inoculation they have been sitting at a constant 78/F since Monday morning and I have yet to see any mycelium growth.
Will checking them and exposing them to light too often slow growth? I have been pretty excited since this has been a long time coming and have been checking them pretty much everyday maybe even twice a day, lol, but I have been loving them as well.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You're using spores I presume...which means they're going to take 5 days to germinate. Lag time before they even *begin* colonizing. So take heart! Your batch is probably just fine, and indeed faster growth would worry me. I have some LC'd tupperwares in right now (no germination time), and they have yet to show growth 36 hours after inoculation. As you see no contaminants the only problems you face are non-viable spores. That could be from:
-bad spores! I have, from time to time, received dead syringes (couldn't revive/create anything even in LC) -Allowing sterilization media to contact the spores. I once fried an entire syringe by sterilizing it the lazy way (above a burner, to turn the needle red)
Anyway, I wouldn't worry. I often get excited and between anxiousness and adding newly innoc'd jars I may open the closet door 5-10 times a day.

yer id prolly say soemthing has gone wrong if none of the jars have show signs of myc after 9 days, try inoculating using a different syringe / spore solution if u got one.

try and make a LC with whatever is left of your syringe. If anything turns out, you will know it wasn't a dud syringe. If nothing happens, email your vendor for a replacement.

Took me a week to see growth in my jars. And even then it was hardly noticable.

my friend had to wait 2 weeks before seeing anything, she was about to throw the jars away but kept them apart from others just in case. unless you see infection don't throw them away. and there's no point re-innocculating them again, just make new jars.

Calgone...
So my foaf bought spores from a non-shroomery vendor. inoculated a jar. Actually lots. None grew (He later found that his partner in crime had not properly soaked the WBS). While testing different places in the house for consistent conditions amenable to incubation, one of these jars was left in a suitcase.
It was noticed 3 weeks later, with no visible growth. No attention was paid.
Unfortunately foaf's roommate grabbed that suitcase for a cross-country trip. Many airports, and 2 weeks later...he unpacked his things at home to find a fully colonized jar (oh shit!)
However, I recommend buying new spores, from another provider (or any of the sponsor sites will be fine). With your first few inoculated jars, retain 2-3ml, and start a live culture. Your life will be easier for it.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll start a few more jars and try to forget about the incubating jars for a few weeks. Excuse my ignorance but can someone explain live\liguid culture to me?
Thanks!

Just inoculate the jars, and set them in the closet on the shelf at room temp for a few weeks. They'll be 100% in 3-4 weeks.

You inject spores into a solution of water with some king of nutrient (honey, malt, etc)
The spores germinate and mycelium grows inside the jar. Then you suck up some of the mycelium using a syringe and inject that into your jars.
That way jars colonize quicker because you don't have to wait for any spores to germinate.
Do a LC with the rest of your syringe, if no mycelium grows, then you will know you got a bad syringe from your vendor.

Well, as an update, these first jars never colonized, but I think it was because my substrate was too moist. I started 3 more jars last week and noticed my first signs of mycelium in each jar today, so I threw away the first 4 and started those over now that I know my syringes weren't dead.
