music ive discovered lately - anyone know of similar artists?
    #6958499 - 05/23/07 08:14 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

ive come across a few groups recently that I really enjoy. You may want to check them out if interested - and if you've already heard of them, i'd like to hear some similar artists if you can post them

Ratatat - canadian group that makes breakbeats mixed with power solos on electric guitars

Bonobo - more breakbeats, lots of obscure samples (also named after my favorite kind of monkey!)

Theivery Corporation (not a favorite, but lots of great tracks)

if you like bonobo, check out the other artists on the ninjatune label.

http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artists.php

My personal favorites from that list:
Blockhead (more of a hip-hop influence, i'd recommend music by cavelight)
DJ Food (one of the originals, still one of the best, Kaleidoscope is one of my favorite cds of all time)
Funki Porcini (just recently started listening to, fast asleep is a great cd)
mr.scruff (easy to listen to, pretty goofy at times, his first cd is his best)
rainstick orchestra (only one from japan and as such they have an oriental sound, only one cd but its great)
skalpel (polish jazz influenced, their first cd is one of my favorites of all time. if you were going to download anything on this list i'd say download that one)
cinematic orchestra (all their stuff is good)

outside of that, here's some cd's/artists i've been listening to

rokysopp - melody A.M - some really good tracks
casino vs. japan - really hypnotic music, heavy base, good stuff
omega one - another hip-hopish artist. only one cd but i really enjoyed it.
fila brazillia - dicks is their best cd, i can't really get into their other ones
