Five Arrested For Picking Illegal Mushrooms May 20, 2007 - wtov9.com
WEIRTON, W.Va. -- Panhandle Trail is a quiet, peaceful trail where many families enjoy walking or even biking. But there is something growing near the trail that's not so family friendly -- wild mushrooms containing psilocybin, a drug that causes hallucinations. For the second time in one month police have arrested a group of people they said were trying to pick them.
"I don't understand why people would want to do that to themselves. I mean I don't even like being on cold medicine. I can't imagine people wanting to be out of control with their mind," said trail walker R.J. Cooke.
Weirton police took five people into custody along the trail on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of illegal mushrooms around four o’clock Sunday afternoon. Police would not release their names, but said they got a tip from a trail walker who said they saw suspicious activity.
"I'm not exactly sure what they do with the mushrooms, but I've heard that they come out there and gather them," said trail walker Jim Virtue.
Police said they will not tolerate anyone picking the mushrooms. Currently, the five people arrested are facing misdemeanor charges, but could face felony charges in the future.
"I have a lot of friends that live in Weirton and they are concerned about it for their kids, themselves, and the criminal aspect," said Cooke.
Most of the people on the trail said it won't stop them from enjoying a weekly stroll , but they said they will report seeing any suspicious activity to police.

People do drugs because it makes them feel like shit. I think that's a misconception that a lot of people have. The reason so many people do drugs is because it feels so good? Maybe? That would make sense huh?

"I don't understand why people would want to do that to themselves. I mean I don't even like being on cold medicine. I can't imagine people wanting to be out of control with their mind," said trail walker R.J. Cooke.
God this infuriates me, once again another ignorant stereotyped view on "Drugs", what ever that loaded misguided confused word means now. It's about time they remove it from the english language as it's no longer a word, but a tool used by the authorities to put fear and misinformation into people.
If you dont understand, then you've obviously never experienced it. And if you haven't experienced it, your not fit to judge, nor condemn.
And isn't it nice how they use a quote from a "trail walker" as if to give it a sense of validity and authority. Obviously you can see which side the journalists, publishes and there bosses lean towards, "something growing near the trail that's not so family friendly"... Jesus, like the mushrooms are hypnotising children to eat them and then taking over there minds. So where's a quote from one of the guys who was arrested? "We wern't causing any trouble, we like to walk the trail just as much as anyone else. Why should we be charged for picking some mushrooms when all were going to do was go back to a friends place, talk and enjoy the experience together in peace" Great example of unbiased objective media there...
And to think that the "something growing near the trail that's not so family friendly" line is just a hook, to grab the readers attention and read the article, so hopefully next time the reader will read another article of theres, and keep coming back to the site. The blatant spreading of ignorance, misinformation and propaganda all for the dollar. Most news isn't news, nor fact, nor information. News is an apathetic middle aged person who writes on things they have no idea about for money to pay the rent. Journalists have an important job, and it's time the majority of them woke up and took some responsibility. It's time people asked themselves the question, is what i'm doing helping the earth and it's inhabitants? If you dont have knowledge on a subject, dont write about. Because the majority of people who read that article are not going to be well informed people, and because it's on the internet and has a "news" headline, most people are going to take it for fact and truth.
Stop Polluting The Earth And Take Some Responsibility.

Wow... this article is complete bullshit.

Oh God, no, not... mushrooms!!! This scenario sounds worse than anything from a Rob Zombie horror film.

At least the dictionaries have an example for the term 'retarded dumbass' for next year's edition.

I hope this 'trail walker' ingests poisonous mushrooms & dies.

Could you make an educated guess as to what they might do with them?
Quote:
Police said they will not tolerate anyone picking the mushrooms.
Yeah, because if they didn't arrest people picking mushrooms... they might have to do something else with their time... something that involves making an actual contribution to society, for example.

Again, the dictionaries thank you.

Most of the people? LOL... I'd love to see the people who said they wouldn't return because of this... their interviews have to be fucking hilarious.
