So Eve was having an affair with Lilith behind Adam's back.
I was thinking earlier today about the Garden of Eden as a metaphor for aging through life, but what's the discussion here?

It was a reach in the dark. I was hoping to bait Markos.
Something about this myth really struck a chord with me, but since I have presented no topic, I would love to learn more about the metaphor as you see it.

yea sure you're just using me to keep the thread alive until he does see it lol
my metaphor wasn't too amazing and my knowledge of the events is minimal but I was thinking that Adam and Eve both represented parts of ourselves - neither being good or bad just possessing distinguishably different traits. during childhood, (most) children are blissfully ignorant of the negative (but essential) forces in the world. the apple could be truth or clear vision and when we receive it (which usually happens slowly) the world takes on a new and frightening form. but over time we learn to accept it and our shortcomings, we find what makes us happy we continue living and uh..that's pretty much it.
yeah nothing cosmic I know, I was reading Mark Twain and it was a side thought
care to share which chord it struck?

Well, you're a master baiter then! Numerous legends about Lilith exist among orthodox Jews. Talismans are still made and displayed on the cribs of infants to ward off Lilith who would steal the life breath from them and kill them. She is a Kali-esque aspect of the Eternal Feminine who, as legend has it, refused to lie beneath Adam in subservience, but wanted to get on top (perhaps my favorite position)! When Adam refused, she fled to the desert and consorted with demons.
Lilith was the name given to TV psychiatrist Fraser Crane's witchy bitchy wife. It was taken by Patricia Sinclair who co-founded the Temple of Set with Michael Aquino and became Lilith Aquino (both from the Church of Satan).
A fine book by Barbara Black Koltuv, Ph.D. is entitled The Book of Lilith which has illustrations of Jewish magical talismans to protect against Lilith.

Reminds me of Lilith Velkor from The Illuminatus Trilogy, don't really see the connection though.

The one that fantasizes about two women at one time.
Actually my sociology teacher who I consider a very wise guy mentioned the myth with such an intonation as to perhaps impress upon me the possibility of its relevance to my own life. So I thought I'd post the article as a co-ordinate so to speak and see if anyone else could give me a larger map.
Very good post btw!
