I don't think anything that causes brain damage is less harmful than marijuana.
I've seen "experts" claim that Marijuana is addictive and causes brain damage.

It seems like everyone is saying the same thing "blah blah, fuck this shit MJ is just as natural" etc.
What im interested in is: has anyone on the shroomery actually TRIED it?

some species of lobelia act upon the nicotine receptors for very long periods of time, compared to Nicotiana species, say for several hours. They put lobelia inflata in smoke cessation formulas because of this, makes you not want more. I believe this plant is mentioned in Plants of the Gods.
But thats a bullshit story, damn.

Native Americans used Lobelia to treat respiratory and muscle disorders, and as a purgative. Today it is used to treat asthma and food poisoning, and is often used as part of smoking cessation programs. It is a physical relaxant, and can serve as a nerve depressant, easing tension and panic.
As used in North America, Lobelia's medicinal properties include the following: emetic (induces vomiting), stimulant, antispasmodic, expectorant, diaphoretic, relaxant, nauseant, sedative, diuretic, and nervine.
Because of its similarity to nicotine, the internal use of Lobelia may be dangerous to susceptible populations, including children, pregnant women, and individuals with cardiac disease. Excessive use will cause nausea and vomiting. It is not recommended for use by pregnant women and is best administered by a practitioner qualified in its use.
The plant is interesting enough, but it doesn't sound as benign as Cannabis after all. Sounds very similar to tobacco, though it isn't solanaceous. The active alkaloid is Lobeline . Most of the information on Lobeline I found was about it's use in smoking cessation.
