 Site creation questions

Hello to all,
I want to make 2 web sites, (0 experience)
One, is going to be a simple book selling page, nothing fancy, just the basics with a few pictures of the books for sale, along with some info about them and a way to make payments for customers...
The other, will be for a group of musicians, who simply want to upload a few pictures and some of their tracks so that people can listen to them and communicate for live bookings.
So here are my newbie questions:
About the first site (Book-selling page):
Do i absolutely HAVE to pay a fee every month, to some sort of host(?) to be able to make cash/accept money for the books i sell? How does this thing work?
And about the musicians site, is there a free way to provide them with the page they want? If yes, can you point at a good/easy way to start with?
Also, do i have a computer 24/7 in order to have the site viewable non stop?

Yes, you need to pay to have the domain name.
The shopping deal with be a little complicated for a newbie, unless you have someone taking care of that, or some sort of software already.

I don't really know what you're asking here... you'll have to pay for the domain and hosting if you don't want to host it yourself.

Not if you pay for hosting.

The way it normally works with a website is you have a domain and you have hosting. The domain is what gets typed into the navigation box and the hosting is where all of the files are actually stored.
The files are stored on a server belonging to your provider. You upload your files to their server.
You can get free services but they will be at places like Geocities.com or Tripod.com and the addresses will look like "www.geocities.com/sterile_website" or something like that.

As you have no knowledge about this sort of thing; it would probably be a good idea to get a host that has cPanel .. cause then you'll be able to install things like
http://www.oscommerce.com/
http://www.phpshop.org/
http://www.oscmax.com/
which will make your life a lot easier.
Although imo the best thing to do is host yourself  (I do)
