orange/red growth on cake (updated pics)
    #6835395 - 04/26/07 03:46 AM (6 years, 1 month ago)

as you can see-my cake is fucked

i just wondered if you guys know what it is.

I think i may let it continue to grow just to see the wee mushrooms
come to life-but i shant be eating any-incase i die

bit of a shame as it was my first grow

i think i was too early birthing- and the bottom of the cake hadn't developed enough mycelium.

is it worth trying to remove that top chunk of the cake to salvage the now fruitng bottom layer? or is that just daft

cheers again for any info

You need to let them go to full colonization plus one week before birthing. It never pays to be in a hurry. You might bury it outside in a pile of manure to see if it can recover there.

2 days on and the red shit hasnt increased (on the surface anyway)

but there is now a small dot of green as you can see.

the shrooms are about ready to pop thier vails-they are nice and big and juicy.

but are they safe? :frown: i dont know

this its worth picking them, and hacking into the cake to see how far (if at all) the badness spreads inside.

the two shrooms have come from the very bottom of the cake

i really want to scoff them-but not if i will die! clearly

Hi. You need to remove that cake from your house, because you are spreading spores by keeping the contaminated cakes, and jeopardizing future grows. You cannot cut off the contam, but you may take it outside and hope it continues to fruit.

The fruits are quite alright to eat. They do not absorb toxins from the mold or bacteria sharing the substrate. As long as the mushroom itself looks healthy, it is fine to consume.
