yeah this has been messing with my laptop for a while. It is some sort of bug/memory leak. If you watch your system resources you will notice that after you left click in a page the tax on your memory goes up to 100%; hence the slow down.
One thing I have found helps (but not totally) is change the default memory allocation in Firefox.....
open a new blank tab type in about:config scroll down to browser.cache.memory.capacity the default I think is 16 (16 megabytes) pointing to your system ram change that to 16384 --- right click on that number and a dialog box pops up.
This has worked for me but your comp has like 2 gigs of RAM I thought you said..so it might need a higher variable....
hopes this helps

You will need to restart firefox at least and you may need to reboot. But it will definately speed things up.
Mine is still temporarily spikeing to 100% but not as much as when the defualt 1600 ( I was mistaken and told you the default was 16) was upped to 16384.
(Why 16384 instead of 16000? Because computers use base-12 counting. Thus 16 megabytes = 16384 bytes. Likewise, if you want to double that and allocate 32MB, you'd enter 32768)
