Some of my plants, and questions...

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to plants in general, but I enjoy them a lot, especially succulents and cacti.
To start, this person I know gave me some "Peruvian Torch" cacti seeds (I'm not sure whether or not I trust him). I planted them, but I didn't do much research beforehand and frankly I think I put them all too deep. I waited about 2 weeks, and nothing happened, so I didn't really pay much attention to them... I thought they were dead. I was about to plant something else in the pot when I saw a little green thing. So that's good, at least one of them sprouted. The question is, is this a Peruvian Torch? Is it even a cactus at all?

(magnified)

This baby was given to me as a gift. The little sprouts coming off the side is quite an interesting phenomenon.

My small collection of succulents.

This thing has been pretty bad since I bought it. I thought it would get better, but it isn't. Any suggestions for it? What's wrong?

And that's it. I know it's not a particularly amazing collection, but I wanted to share. Also, it would be great if anyone could tell me if they know what any of these plants are. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the replies guys. I hope it's Peruvian Torch, but it's ok if it turns out to be something different.

you cannot properly ID a seedling from looking at it...it needs to be bigger. hopefully it is, but you cant know yet.

Yeah definietly can't ID seedlings, especially torch. There's enough debate going around about the ID of mature ones. I can tell you it's most likely a cactus seed you planted. I was surprised by the way they looked too first time I ever sprouted one.
Also, be patient. If you're gonna throw out soil by two weeks, you're gonna miss a lot of seeds that could have sprouted. It's not abnormal for cacti seeds to take that long at all. I've had some pop up much later. Then when you're talking about other plants....you could wait ayear for certain things.

yeah well they say they've found seeds in chine that were 1200 years old that were still viable. that's just because the seed coat is so hard. You'd know why if you ever tried filing it. It's work even with a wood file. But I was referring to seeds like yerba mate that sometimes need one or two seasons of cold stratification before they germinate. Ginko also takes quite a while.

Some more questions that I believe don't really warrant the creation of another thread:
What the hell is going on with this? It's outside with three of my other cacti, direct sun getting watered twice a week (sometimes once), in a little greenhouse, although I leave the lid open all the time. It's been looking rather sickly for a while now, and I haven't had it for too long, so I think it may have been sick from the start. Who knows? I'm thinking it may be shock from the indoors > outdoors transition.

Here is my little (hopefully) Trichocereus something seedling. Seems to be growing a little slow...but it's probably just me.

This is a cactus that InFest generously donated to me. Thanks again. It's growing well I think.

Here's a close up of it. I think these spots and stuff are normal, but I'm just a little paranoid about the health of this one, as I don't really want it to die.

Bonus picture- what the hell is this? It looks long gone to me, but still interesting.

It'll probably be a year or so before you can ID the cactus seedling.
