I think I garden more than anyone else I know. I have so many plants vegetables, herbs, flowers and trees, And everything in between!
This year I've really been focusing on my ornamental flowers like Iris, Gladiolus, Echinacea, Daffodils, Day lillies, Tiger lillies and Annise hyssop. It brings me a lot of pleasure to get down and dirty. Mostly just digging, turning soil, adding mulch, and replanting, spreading them all over the yard And the long term results are amazing! I'm learning a ton on the internet about every plant I have, and also acquiring new skills and ideas. I plan to eventually have a "farm" where I have unlimited space to plant massive perennial gardens, and open my garden to the public and run a small business. There's lots of hidden useful information out there, especially on wikipedia... It's a feasible way to survive, if you set yourself up real early for land management and a small saving set aside.

sounds great! i too wish to own a farm. you may be interested to read up on things like "tera preta" and aquaculture etc. i am planning on turning our future property into a self sustainable unit producing food and energy while also being able to dispose of the waste efficiently and cleanly.
plants are pretty fucking incredible...they can eat light, that blows my mind!

That sounds amazing, just yesterday I was looking at ecological engineering and information on permaculturist David Holmgren and his amazing Melliodora project.
I'm looking at doing that same as yourself but starting with a small suburban plot.

I love to garden but the kids always keep my garden space limited. I have been looking into planting on unused public lands. Something like the community gardens in some of the larger cities. I have even heard of some folks who get easements to use unused rail lines for gardening.
