What SMP version are you waiting for? They already have versions for Windows, Linux (that's what I run), and Intel OSX.

Yeah, but it will only run on one processor. If you try to launch a second copy, it sees the first one and kills itself.

I have a dual-core CPU. It's very easy to get them both crunching for F@H. You just need multiple copies of the console, in different directories (eg. C:\Program Files\Folding@home\CPU1 and CPU2). Configure them the same, except give them different machine IDs (1 and 2). I recommend answering 'yes' when it asks whether to install as a system service, you'll never even know it's there. Until the SMP client is out of beta this should work fine.
Oh and thanks for bringing a PS3 to the team Legend! You can tell who has one, since their stats make my years of contribution look like the work of a pocket calculator.

"There is already another Folding@Home running. Only one copy may be run at a time. This copy will now quit."
Hmm... did you install it twice to different directories or just copied?

Hmmm... you're using the console right? Download the executable and copy it to two different directories. Run the first one and set it up, then run the second one and set it up the same except with a different machine id. For me that's all there is to it, but I'm thinking this may be the problem:
Quote:
-local
Use configuration files from local directory. This option has no meaning on Linux, but is vital on Windows and Macintosh for running multiple clients on a machine. It instructs the client to read its config information from the client.cfg file in the current directory rather than, on Windows, from the installation directory specified in the registry, or, on Macintosh, the Library/Folding@home directory. Information such as the user name, team name, proxy information, machine ID are maintained in the client.cfg file. The flag ensures that work does not conflict. Use "-local" only if you are planning on running more than one instance of Folding@Home on the same machine (this is only useful if you are running on a multi-processor machine). Create as many directories as there are processors on the machine, copy the exe files and client.cfg file into each of these directories, run "FAH3Console -local -config" on each and specify unique machine IDs for each directory (under the Advanced Settings option). From then onwards you may run each copy by switching to its directory and running with the -local flag.
Since I run them as services, maybe -local is implied...? Anyway I've never had to use it but maybe you should give it a try.

Alright I've got 2 desktops and 1 laptop folding now. However I've decided to join Team Russia because they look like they're slowly creeping up the ladder and I predict they will be #1 when this catches on more over there. Might as well get on the winning team now.

I checked my stats today and it says that I'm only folding on 1 machine but I'm really folding on 3. Is this because they (the computers) are all connected to the same internet connection through a wireless router?

Nope it doesn't matter if you have multiple PCs sharing an internet connection, they should still show up separately. But I just checked and it says you have 2... did you recently start folding on one of the computers? It might not have finished its first work unit yet.

The SMP client should run on all cores if it's set up right. Running more than one SMP client wouldn't work, well, maybe on Quad Core, but better to get the work done more quickly by running only one instance. Check your deadlines if you're running on a slower dual core. It would be poopy if it wasn't getting done fast enough to help the project. No PS3's here, all linux network, one Quad, one Dual, a pentium 4 and 2 pentium III's. But I'll pay for electricity if somebody wants to buy me a PS3.

Yeah it took it a few days to recognize the second CPU.. The third one is running as well and it has definitely finished a WU so I don't know whats up. I'll have to look into it tomorrow, too lazy to bother at the moment.

in your client.cfg you can change machineid=1 or something like that to another value. This should help?

My helix changes color from time to time. I know it's supposed to do this as you get more WU's, but it's doing it without me getting any more and without me submitting my name when I edit my details. Does it automatically update your completed frames without you having to type your name in?

I just joined the Shroomery team on folding@home. I have 4 computers in my house. Now if I put all 4 running folding@home, would it help the shroomery team anymore, than just running it on one computer?
