problems with bags

As seen below I have gotten a bag to work perfectly as well as jars. I cooked these bags for 4 hrs and sealed. Inoculated each one with 10 cc LC. They seemed to growing just fine and now they have stalled or have contaminated. The pictures of bags are almost 2 weeks old. The WBS was outside draining and it was below freezing so I had to break it up when I loaded in the bags, but I am not sure what happened. If the WBS was too dry? stumped

They probably just got cooked to mush. There's no need to go over 2 hours, even if they're really loaded. You also need a plenum of air in the top, but I don't think that's the problem. Make up another batch and PC for 90 to 120 minutes. RR

I made a bag recently (2 days ago). P.C.ed at 15psi for 1 and 1/2 hrs then sealed and knocked with cambo. Hoping for the best. This thread concerns me. I hope this doesn't happen to me.

well I have a 921 and I use jar lids in between the bags to help with airflow. I have never heard of only needing to cook at that short of an amount of time when the PC is jammed full. 2 bags look like they are too wet, but as I said it was outside and it froze so its possible they were too wet. They are getting covered in white but they are not forming a brick. The bag you see fully colonized was pc'd 3-4 hrs. It colonized rapidly. Same strain, same LC, Same amount of inoculant.
Can I use this stuff as spawn even though it is forming irregulary? I dont have a lot of spawn hand except all my jars which should be done soon.

I have always pressure cooked my bags that are full for 3 to 4 hours, and that is well within the guidelines set out by Paul Stamets in his recommendations (do not exceed 4 hours, though). Any bag that stalls is probably too wet or too dry, but there is no way to tell from your picture which is the case. Also, 10 ccs is very little inoculate for a small bag and is really pushing the low limits. What's the big shortage on LC about? I use 140ccs for my large spawn bags, and I wouldn't recommend under 20ccs for any size bag. If you do use that little, you'd best give the bag a good shake around day 5. Lastly, did you seal the bag quickly and without introducing air? A single puff of your breath will bacterially contaminate the bag pretty bad, and that combined with a really low amount of LC inoculate would spell definite failure.

here is my 921 packed down with 4 bags spaced with jar lids. 140 cc is way too much for just doing wbs or rye. It needs poo to handle that big of an inoculation. Agar suggested letting it cool so that the bags do not evaporate there moisture out. No shortage on LC just had bags getting soggy and contaminate from being too wet. I dont sterilze substrate.
So is RR correct or what would be a suggested pc time for it being packed down like that without damaging the future spawn?

Huge bags of pure grain is not a good idea unless you are very careful about your moisture levels, and even then I do not recommend it. Why are you no adding vermiculite for moisture balance like everyone else does?

In my opinion grain bags SHOULD be inoculated with as much LC as you can without it pooling at the bottom of the bag.
OR better, spawned in front of a flowhood or in a glove box with Grain 2 Grain transfer of a master grain jar.
Remember, when filling bags, you MUST not touch the filter with any grain or get grain "juice" on the plastic 1 inch from the bottom of the filter and above. This juice has nutrients and it can wick contaminates from the filter. Be careful to properly fold the bag, seal and wrap the flap around the bag.
After you Sterilize the bag, DO NOT fuck with the PC until the entire PC and Bag are cool, so.. PC it, Wait overnight and then open your PC in the morning and place it in another open ended bag or flow hood or glove box to protect it from dust and crap floating in the air.
ALSO - fold the bag so the filter is toward the bag.. not outward.

I have not read anything about people putting vermiculite in their full grain bags. I have read a lot, but apparently I need to read more. As you can see from the pic. I tape the sides of the bag near the top so its easy to seal and fold the filter under.
Do you think I can add more LC and get the existing bags going again since they have not contaminated?
I do open inoculations all day. I spray the air with oust and the clave with lysol, wear a mask and boufant cap. lysol'd gloves and spray the inoculation places with lysol while I prepare my syringe. Then wipe it all with alcohol and close quickly with hot glue. shake the bag around and put in a tub with a lid.
any suggestions or critism is welcome

another question. blue helix. lets say you did make a jar of spawn. would you add vermiculite to it.
about bag handling. when I knock it up i tend to knock it around after the filter is dry. I have got grain on it rolling it around like a jar, and never got a contam. Thats with dirty hands and no face mask or oust cleaned air
