I'm am gonna have to say climate change. Although Healthcare is a close second. What is everyone else's thoughts on the matter here? Do you think climate change is going to be a big issue in '08 I hope so, but I may be a bit optimistic.

Overconsumption of resources. This is the mother of all of our environmental problems. And many of our social problems.
It's that simple. Fixing it, is what's complex
http://overpopulation.org/impact.html www.adbusters.org Great sites. Adbusters covers more then overconsumption. And while I feel they had a bit of a rut there, they are back on top of their game IMO.
EDIT: Air Pollution Fatalities Now Exceed Traffic Fatalities by 3 to 1. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution kills 3 million people annually, three times the number "who die ... in automobile accidents". A study published in 2000 (Lancet) demonstrated that air pollution was "responsible for more than 40,000 deaths annually" in France, Austria and Switzerland. In the U.S., "air pollution claims 70,000 lives annually".

Overpopulation.
100,000 years for the first 2 billion.
4 billion more in the next 75 years.

the inability to change for the better because the old money refuses to allow change, ie exploring alternitive fuels. the problem could really be with crooked politions and the lobby system which allows big old money to manipulate our living through goverment.

Biggest problem: Our Democracy is collapsing, it is a total shell now, no representation at all, anything good that comes out of it is pure chance. Capitalism has destroyed it, politicians have self interest to serve those who give them money not people. Don't believe me? Go down the street asking people to name their local politicians, you will get no answers. How can they be accountable if noone knows who they are?

Errrmm..How About the Media being controlled by a handful of giant corporations, while the main role of journalism is to be the publics watch-dog over Corporate/Political corruption, instead the information we are fed is tailored to keep the public docile and apathetic towards everything - leading to consumerism as a whole which leads to industrial consumption and waste which leads to the very last problem which are environmental changes. We need to de-program our minds from corporate grips, not to be such 1 dimensional people easily targeted by focus groups. Basically, we need a revolution.

The funny thing is the FBI is probably reading what I just wrote due to the bastardization of our civil liberties through fear of terrorism so aptly titled "The U.S.A. Patriot Act" who's hundreds of pages wasn't finalized until after 3am the day before it was voted through - which not a single representative had time to read before-hand.

Also the privatization of the Internet which will inevitably happen, also the Taxation of internet purchases will also happen in the not so distant future. Once we lose the level playing field, utopianesque equality of the internet we'll be well on our way to stepping further into a climate that more closely resembles the former Soviet Union all the while the average person will still be waving their American flags and believe their vote is actually being counted.

Ohhh and North Korea isn't a picnic. Religion who's prime directive is to promote ignorance, intolerance and to stop social progress in general isn't doing the world any favors either. The new wave of none-secular private schools introducing religious stories/myths as historical/scientific facts is severely warping the newest generations perception of reality....
