If you find yourself in a BAD trip e.g. you strongly feel that you've become insane and your whole life has just turned upside down, youre paranoid and scared to death of the new world that has been invented in your head, thought loops...
I agree with stemmer about taking a walk, but if thats not good enough try running/jogging.
In one of my worst trips i just started to run and it really helped, i saw it as running away from the bad feelings and thoughts and i eventually found something that made me feel good.
I've also read a thread on how dancing also helps stop a bad trip.

For me, walks are the best thing for a bad trip. But If i dont go for a walk, I wash my face with cold water. Some thing about how it feels and make u feel clean fast, allways leaves me with the feeling of being refreshed.

Oh, and if you have the luxury of a pool, take a dip, aslong as your not compleetly gone. Oh and if you do wana take a dip when tripping, you might wana start off in the shalow end.

play some of your favorite chill out music
meditate on a cool poster
eat some of your favorite food
watch a favorite movie
talk to a favorite friend
play some chess (or something else that requiresa deep thought) online
watch some funny tv

It can be very helpful to record the part from exorcist where Reagan is tied to the bed cursing and head spinning around on a tape loop and just watch it over and over and over! If that does not work then I usually watch "Cops Gone Bad"(now on DVD) and that usually makes me feel more secure. Generally...anything with lots of screaming will settle you right down when the trip goes bad. I know it does not sound like it could work...but the subconscious mind is especially open to reverse psychology in trippy times. You might crap or pee your pants at first or slam your head down on a sharp piece of broken glass(like that girl in "the Stand") but after that...you will just laugh a lot. 
"SWIMMING" is the LAST thing I would do!!!!!! Unless you want your picture in the paper? You might dream up alligators or suddenly the mosquitoes will be as big as planes and you will be screwed.

Very cool post Kaniz! I have learned to somewhat anchor my mind with a bit of meditation BEFORE i shroom. Nobody dresses for a mud-fight as they would for a wedding...but people head off into 'shroom-land' without much thought(I have too), That is more than unwise. Shrooms don't owe us ANYTHING...so we should approach their wonders with respect. In pre-meditation you can create the grounds of peace/humility/respect/calmness and all good qualities that 'dress' you better for WHATEVER you find on your trip.
Be ready for humor. It is so powerful!!!! For instance..my voice physically gets very much deeper when I shroom. It is a dead givaway to my friends!!!! I have offset anxiety with mjy shroom song mantra. I sing that old country song "Elvira" (the deep voice guy part!) and it is pretty fricking funny. A light heart goes a long way on a shroom trip. I may cut a DVD???: 'Shroom Hits' of some such. Maybe there will be a talent show called 'American Stoner' or American Shroomer'??? You KNOW you want to try out for THAT!!!!

Just remember that you're not going to die. You have to remember that all the negative physical and mental problems you experience tripping are not from any actual harm, but simply a radical change in how you perceive your body and mind to the point where everything is intensified beyond recognition. Once you remember this point, that it's all in your perception and partially under your control, you can calm yourself down and stop freaking out about the differences in the psilocybin/ LSD experience.

fuck ya... awesome thread...... i can not stress the taking a piss thing enough. this has saved my night/day many of time. especially when i was first starting out. i think it might have something to do with the toxins in your body and you are feeling threw out your being. when you release those toxins you feel a great relief and feeling of a new start.... right on..  .

Here's a tip.. don't try to sleep. Closing your eyes will probably make it worse. Keep Benadryl around if you REALLY need to knock yourself out, but don't make that a habit.
A lot of people I know have had bad trips that made them not want to trip ever again, but they say the experience made them very euphoric for a long period afterwards (weeks).

A beer is very calming for me, but new trippers beware alcohol can be odd and cause more nausea while tripping. Other than that I can't stress enough having some form of good hydration by your side water, kool-aid, gateraid, or whatever. I have had so many experiences where I was so faced out and dehydrated and couldn't find or fix myself anything just because I was so fucked up.

Honestly, I do not believe in good or bad trips; just trips with bad moments. I have never experienced 8 hours of hell; but I have experienced an hour or two of mind knots. I found the best way to eliminate your "negative" thought is to agree with it. For example, a few weeks ago I misplaced my ego, and was slightly weirded out by my noticing it, which I don't usually do. But after I concluded that egos suck (I don't remember exactly why), I was totally fine with what came next... what if I die? I knew deep down I wasn't going to die, but I agreed with myself that if I were to die sometime while on this trip, it would be the best way to go, because my misplacement of ego kept me from the negative emotions correlated with death, no matter what your condition. Therefore, I say don't fight your negative cognitions, because then your brain is contaminated with it and it doesn't want to go away. But if you agree and just let it go, it seems to pass pretty quick and you find something else to think about. Maybe this is just me and my experiences and countless hours of research, or maybe this is just a not so well known and maybe difficult for some, method.
Not to get off the subject, but I've noticed that every single time that I have set off on a journey, my nose is frozen for the entire duration. My physical state is completely irrelevant to my nose for some reason; I could be thrown into a bonfire, and still that icicle hanging from the tip of my nose does not melt.... does anyone else experience this or know why this happens? I know that I'm not the only one with this condition so I'd like to hear someone else's comments. I've looked everywhere for some answers to my phenomena; maybe I'm blind. I hope this hasn't been answered yet.

sing mantras for what? keeping my nose from getting cold? hehe I'm just playin; yea, singing in general seems to up the mood, even if you're not a singer like myself. Music just seems to have an enormous impact on one's trip anyway... but honestly, I prefer to find a comfy spot in the middle of a forest preserve and listen to natures tune... seems to be the best music for me, but everyone is different.

hmmmm.........old ass thread.
I am the less assholish version of stemmer.
Take a walk. Figuring it out for yourself is best with the wind in your hair, a nice pace, and the less symetrical confines of nature rather than of a room and its various ornaments.
Go off and take too much of something and have a bad trip.
Find out what works for you.
I have never had a bad trip, but thats only because my most difficult experiences were the best experiences.
