Well, personally I'd lose my own arm to protect a nation of people from being slaughtered. However I would never put a nation of people above my family or the person I care about most in this world. (my daughter)

I would have expected the notion that the benefit of the many outweighs the benefit of the few, would also be widely carried if it's one's own turn.
Not everyone finds collectivism acceptable. I, myself, find it disgusting.
Absolutely.
I would not loose an arm or a loved for the lives of the people in a nation I have never and will never visit.

If people are to cooperate on any level, there has to be some give-and-take for it to work.
I feel self-sacrifice for a greater good is truly remarkable and one of the most wonderful things about the human species.
There is a difference between the collectivism of the many that sacrifice the few, or that of the few who choose to sacrifice of themselves, for the good of the many. I don't see how one can be disgusted by this latter form of collectivism.
In this thread it is blurred however, because the sacrifice made in both options is mostly someone else's.

I think that self sacrifice for a group of people you can't identify with is rather hard to attain.
If I wanted to be grouped together with the rest of the world (I don't, a lot of the world is shit) then I would make whatever self sacrifice I had to for the community.
I just don't identify with the world, so I'd rather protect my own interests until I'm powerful enough to change it

Whats so hard to identify, they're people, they want the same things as you and me. Cause they have they're own screwed up customs don't make them any more worse than we are. Most people don't even have a say in it all just like us. My countries polices don't represent me.
