Ok, I am old enough to remember when the word EMO first appeared. I am 25 years old. And EMO was used to denote bands like Jimmy eat world(etc) I even remember an article called the rise of EMO or some shit. I never liked "emo music" though.
Years pass.... and now EMO, means all sorts of shit to different people.
To me, its kids that are goth like, and cut themselves, are depressed all the time etc. And their music. Sounds stupid, I know, but thats the impression I get from others.
So that being said, what does EMO mean to you??
My brother says I have it all wrong, its emotional pop music. Thats it.
So why do people say emo kids then!  I really dont care that much, but whats YOUR opinion????
Also, is ALL music that is emotional, or depressing EMO now?(in the general culture???)
I can think of plenty of songs that are depressing, or where the singer is bitching about how much things suck in their lives, that are GOOD SONGS.
Is everyone a robot now?? Does anyone feel emotions anymore??
My GF thought I was bitching at her via MSN, and said, dont be Emo.
GEEZ. I dont understand all this shit, should I even try?

For me emo kids were goths that got it all wrong. I hear they listen to "emotional" music... depressing in other words. It seems to be a standard that they are mostly guys who where really tight girls pants, cut their hair so you can't see their eyes, and generally have a few emotional problems (probably there from before they were emo-ized), hence the cutting and whatnot.
But I've never actually met someone who called themselves emo
I have seen skater boi's dressed like emo's tho, which is really sad because their tight pants and silly hair make them suck at skating.

I guess it's like being a punk rock kid, except way lamer.
I suppose kids dress like "emo kids" to try and set themselves apart from whatever.. and talk about crappy poems and cut themselves.

When EMO chicks aren't carving "I'm sorry" into their hips with a razor blade they're writing really shitty goth poetry, some good music has come out of the AFI scene though like Lacuna coil, check out Comalies

It almost reminds me of that fake "ska" era we weren't through about 10 years ago. There were some good bands, but there were a lot of CRAP bands. I must say though that Less Than Jake rocked.

For a forum dedicated to expanding your mind, this seems to be very narrow minded. Don't dismiss what you don't fully understand. People have the right to be whomever they want to be and you shouldn't criticize.
ALSO, Im pretty sure "Emo" music doesn't stand for "Emotional" music. All music has emotion.
