 Rye Jars Went Green

I inoculated 7 jars with B+ LC, within 3 days I noticed lots of mycelium, by day 6 the jars were almost fully colonized and then my rye kernels starting to slowly turn green. A few of the jars got fully colonized but had a small patch of green on the bottom surface of the jar. Can anyone please help

Could be bad LC or improper sterilization. Did the green show up where you inoculated the jar? Try it again and make a control jar.

I made a control jar, and the jars were PC a week before inoculation. I shook the jars after I inoculated the lc therefore the green showed up everywhere .

Could it be that my jars were in the same incubator as my casing( that ended up with green mold).

If your control jar got green without being inncoulated, either sterilized improperly or bad filtering. How is your filter?

Sorry bout the last post, the control jar never got contamed, Im using tyvek filter, the lid has one hole for GE and one for innoc, I use band-aid's to cover innoc point. My LC has no visible contams and it was my first time extracting myc from it. Im just wondering is it my LC?

Very possible. Have you checked your LC? Crack open one of those jars in a CONTROLLED ENVIRMENT that you can easily seal off from everything else like a glovebox then bleach/sanatize/vaccum the area. See if the inside of the jar has the mean green if not.. see if you cant maybe harvest a little of uncontamed spot. Prolly not but could always try.

One of the jars were about 95% done but there was a small light green patch on the bottom, I mixed what was left with pre-past hpoo. Once I opened the jar it smelled like fresh myc, then as I get to the bottom of scraping the myc out the jar it had a real light sour smell.

Don't bother salvaging the jars. It won't work. You shook them around and such. Just start over.
Your problem stems from either your LC or your inoculation methods. How sterile was the inoculation? Did you flame the needle after each jar? Did you wrap the needle in an alcohol soaked cotton swab in between jars?

I used a glovebox- I flamed the needle- Wiped it off with alcohol-squirted some spore solution out to make sure the needle was cool- then inoculated, I followed this exact procedure on every jar. At this point I made up some new rye jars and inoculated just with a spore syringe instead of LC to see if the LC is really the problem.

Yeah, it sounds like the LC. Could be your inoculation technique, but you sound pretty strerile with it, so I'm going with the LC as the most probable cause.

Im thinking LC to. sux b/c it was a new LC from a sponsor and it has a cloud of mycelium about the size of a tennis ball with no visible contams. Although I used a old syringe too and cleaned it(boiled for 20 min, shot water in and out, brand new needle) could it be that the syringe was faulty?

The liquid culture I purchased was a Light Malt Extract/Dextrose, it didn't have mycelium in it when I recieved it, I innoc with spore syringe.

Oh, ok. That is what we call culturing media, not liquid culture. The word 'culture' implies live mycelium. I'd suggest using syringes to inoculate pf jars rather than LC. You only add an additional vector of contamination when you fist must inoculate the LC, then have to again transfer the LC to the grain/brf jar. Take the LC out of the equation and you can later do grain to grain transfers with colonized spawn which is far less prone to contamination.

Thanks, thats what I think im gonna do, just wate for the spores to germinate the rye jars then just do G2G. By the way what are usual colonization times for rye jars when using spore solution, instead of LC?
