terraycle liquified worm casting + coir experiment. *2nd flush porn*
    #6412227 - 12/31/06 01:14 AM (6 years, 4 months ago)

finally got around to testing out this terracycle liquefied worm castings. 11 rye spawn jars were spawned to 2 bricks of eco earth coir. Each brick of coir was hydrated with two bottles(20oz) of terracycle liquefied worm castings and the rest with straight water. pasteurized all the coir and spawned to what i'm affectionately calling the "king tub". I will case with 50/50+ or MGMC(haven't decided for sure yet.) Also a small pill bottle full of brew grade calcium carbonate was added to the coir to help with the PH. I'll keep you all updated. I am now doubting it will help much. but time will tell i suppose. It looked more watery then i was expecting.

This should be good.  Overall how much liquid (castings and water) did you add to each brick?  I'm about to spawn to coir and I was planning on hydrating a brick with a gallon on distilled water.  :stinkyshroom:

It's easier to just toss a brick of coir into water, then after it's fully absorbed all it's going to, simply squeeze out of any excess as you transfer it to another container for mixing. You don't need to use distilled water. I've never used anything but plain tap water for substrate and grain preparation.

Good luck on the experiment primate. We know worm castings are good, and we know coir is good, so it should work out well.

hydrate coir one brick to one gallon of liquid.  Also make sure you use hot water to hydrate the coir .  Also like RR said, tap water works fine.

Just throw the brick in a big bucket and fill up with really hot water, than squeeze out what you don't want before you spawn to it

First off, sorry i haven't been postin' much lately.  Been very busy with RL stuff.  Hopefully things will settle down soon and i'll be back arounds more often.

Harvested the first flush on the king tub though.  Was really surprised how well it came out. a rather large patch in the center didn't even pin because the casing layer was applied too thickly, and it colonized slower then the rest.  But where it did pin it pinned very evenly, and the fruits were quite big, and very very dense.  The terra cycle definitely didn't hurt any.  The fruits also seem denser then with water hydrated coir.  For what terra cycle costs per bottle tho(about 3.50, i got mine off season for .59 though ) i am thinking coffee is probably a better alternative.

Anywho.  Here's some porn:

Full harvest.

Biggest clump(about 15 fruits)

And, in a totally unrelated pic.  My GF's new tat.

The total weight was about 3187 grams fresh.  That's including the chunks of casing/substrate that inadvertently got pulled with the fruits.  So in actuality a bit less.

it more then doubles the first flush of my last tub which was 6 jars spawn to 1 brick coir.  Where this tub was 11 jars spawn and 2 bricks coir.  Maybe the terra cycle did help; it will be easier to tell when this tub expends itself.  Also on a side note, this time i decided to try casing with MGMC.  i like it pretty well.

anywho, I'll keep ya posted on the project.

I'd say it's more on her upper stomach. Doesn't really matter, most people would have no clue what that is anywho, and that's a place that is normally covered in public.

second flush was recently harvested.  took a bit longer then expected, most likely due to some temp issues.  Less fruits and bigger.  In fact got my biggest ever out of this one.  Total fresh weight was 2582 grams.  That brings the grand total of the first two flushes to 5700-ish.  More then i expected.  perhaps the terracycle made the difference.  More experimentation is needed.  Also it will be interesting to see if i can get a 3rd flush from this bad boy.  It's been dunked, and i'm crossing my fingers.

here's the porn:
