Ex-Cop Plans Video on How to Hide Drugs
December 22, 2006 - helenair.com

TYLER, Texas - A one-time Texas drug agent described by his former boss as perhaps the best narcotics officer in the country plans to market a how-to video on concealing drugs and fooling police.

Barry Cooper, who has worked for small police departments in East Texas, plans to launch a Web site next week where he will sell his video, "Never Get Busted Again," the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported in its online edition Thursday.

A promotional video says Cooper will show viewers how to "conceal their stash," "avoid narcotics profiling" and "fool canines every time."

Cooper, who said he favors the legalization of marijuana, made the video in part because he believes the nation's fight against drugs is a waste of resources. Busting marijuana users fills up prisons with nonviolent offenders, he said.

"My main motivation in all of this is to teach Americans their civil liberties and what drives me in this is injustice and unfairness in our system," Cooper told the newspaper.

Cooper said his Web site should be operating by Tuesday.

As a drug officer, Cooper said, he made more than 800 drug arrests and seized more than 50 vehicles and $500,000 in cash and assets.

"He was even better than he says he was," said Tom Finley, Cooper's former boss on a West Texas drug task force and now a private investigator in Midland. "He was probably the best narcotics officer in the state and maybe the country during his time with the task force."

News of the video has angered authorities, including Richard Sanders, an agent with the Tyler Drug Enforcement Agency. Sanders said he plans to investigate whether the video violates any laws.

"It outrages me personally as I'm sure it does any officer that has sworn an oath to uphold the laws of this state, and nation," Sanders said. "It is clear that his whole deal is to make money and he has found some sort of scheme, but for him to go to the dark side and do this is infuriating."

Smith County Deputy Constable Mark Waters, a narcotics officer, said the video is insulting to law enforcement officials.

"This is a slap in the face to all that we do to uphold the laws and keep the public safe," he said.

The dark side? Sounds to me as if he left the dark side... prohibition doesn't work. Latest statistics claim that 1 in 32 adults in the US are either in prison, jail, house arrest, or under supervision (probation, etc). The police states of america have more people in jail, per capita, than any other country in the world. The land of the free my a... oops, forgot, the FCC took away my freedom to use vulgarities... better be careful what I say or I might get fined.

Maybe it's all a ruse... Maybe he is still working for the REAL dark side, and his video will display the dumbest, and easist to find stash locations...

Or, they will simply show up at anyone's house who orders the video, with some Patriot Act bullshit excuse to search the place.

Hopefully, the guy is serious.

Favorited. Waiting on that link...

Sounds like a cool guy to me. Busts a few hundred people, realizes he's only screwing over people who would otherwise go completely under the radar, nonviolent "criminals," and decides to make a video to help them out.

Power to the people, man.

I think that the problem with this video, is that the cops are going to be watching it, too. A soon as it comes out, they will have it playing in front of every cop on the force along with some brainy think tank types, who will eventually figure out ways to keep "outsmarting the bad guys".

As cool as it is that this ex-cop wants to help people avoid arrest and/or prosecution, this is just another inning in a big game of cat and mouse. We figure out their tricks and find ways to beat them. They figure out our counters and find ways to defeat that.

He's just 20 minutes down the road from me. They've been covering this in the news here almost everyday. Despite what people say about Texas, they are pretty lenient here about weed. My friends and I have almost all been caught, but none have been charged with anything. One time they just took my friend's pipe and didn't confiscate the weed.

Ya, granted we have a police force with a lot of dicks. The law is lenient on weed compared to many many states.

I've had a officer take away a joint and smash it on the ground then go on. Many people i know feel comfortable walking the street smoking a joint. Or smoking on their front porch.

Also, he may have fool-proof methods of helping drug possessors out. Such as constitutional protections. Places that may never be considered in "plain view". Places that you cannot legally frisk for in a "terry frisk".

Also, other tricks for drug dogs, such as what masks scent and what messes up a dog's sense of smell, ect.

I can't wait 'till tues. I'll have that video on the way.

I definitely think that these "safest places" will become the first place cops will check. Don't think for a second that the police won't be watching this too.

Cooper Explains Why He Made The Video
December 22, 2006 - KLTV

Former East Texas Narcotics Officer Explains Why He Made The Video

A former East Texas narcotics officer makes a video that shows drug users how to fool police. Barry Cooper of Big Sandy says he believes marijuana should be legal, and those caught don't deserve to be punished. The video is a documentary on Cooper's life as a narcotics officer. In his eight years with the Gladewater and Big Sandy Police Departments, Barry Cooper says he made more than 300 narcotics arrests, many involving marijuana. Surprisingly, that's something Cooper says he's not proud of.

"I wish the heroin, cocaine and meth were completely eradicated from the face of the earth because they are so dangerous, not so with marijuana," said Barry Cooper. "You can put five people in a room and let them smoke all the marijuana they want. They can eat it, take a bath in it, and the next day they are alive and able to got to work." That's why Cooper says he got out of law enforcement. He says the war on drugs is not working, sometimes at the expense of the men and women fighting it.

"We have more people in jail than every before, but more drugs on the street than ever before, yet we have dead police officers, some of my fellow brothers," said Cooper. His answer, ending drug prohibition all together.

"Prohibition ruins lives," said Cooper. "If all drugs were made legal police officers would quit getting shot at. " Cooper says rather than fighting drugs, more resources should go to educating people about their dangers.

"America look, listen to someone who was in the war on drugs," said Cooper. "We are ruining lives more than the drugs themselves, by putting these people in prison." His video, never get busted again is how Cooper plans on keeping that from happening. His video goes on sale Tuesday. We spoke to local law enforcement officials, who say the video does not scare them. They say the information Cooper is providing is no secret and can be found both on TV and the Internet.

It's too bad he still demonizes other drugs. He should also mention that everyone should stay away from alchohol because you can od on it too.

Still, hopefully this vid has an overall good effect on the general public, but he just enforced people's fears towards certain drugs while pretending that other drugs are somehow entirely different.

I guess it'll have to wait for a different chapter in Earth's history before people smarten up on all drugs, not just singling out the one they like or are personally ok with.
