I know Fox News isnt very reputable, but still it doesnt seem that far fetched to me. Does anyone else know anything else about this?
And no I'm not a conspiracy theorist.
If you're too lazy to watch it, it basically says that the FBI can listen to our conversations by activating the mic in our phones even when they're off. The only way around it is to take out the battery (or if it's dead, obviously). They say they used it to keep tabs on mafia members.
Thoughts?

It can possible.It's allways communicating with the base stations and the information can be taken as I know.

My first thought is to verify that this is an actual news story, and not a hoax. It's hosted on youtube, after all.
My second thought is that while fox isn't a credible source for political news, this kind of news seems to fall outside their bias, since there is no obvious connection to a political party.

I think the potential for abuse of this is quite high. Especially considering where our government seems to be heading.

i dont carry my cell phone ANYWHERE....because i hate everyone
i think someone should repeat the words i make bombs for a living into their cell phones while its turned off for exactly one week....to see if anything comes of it

That's interesting... But the phone company would have to be involved. They still have to "remotely install" the program to make that happen.
I will ASSUME that the phone company would have to be forced to do that, by court order or whatever... So it's not like the FBI can listen to anyone's phone when they're wackin' off to internet porn. You have to be involved in some serious shit, and be under investigation...
That is an assumption tho... Who knows, maybe they install the software by default since 9/11? spooooky.

Although it is possible on some handsets, the phone company must activate it by updating your phone with evil listening software.
The first thing you would notice is your battery dieing quicker than normal. My phone has a small battery but long standby time. If I overuse the display or talk for an hour, it needs a recharge. Otherwise, it lasts a few days.

yes, and guess what? federal law made it mandatory for your phone to have a GPS tracking system built into it called "enhanceed 911" most cities will know exactly where you are if you call 911, or do not otherwise deactivate it.
what youre talking about is passive listening, not difficult do to, and somewhat easy. Not sure how accessable it is though... is it stuff that is usually reserved to big cases, or oten used?

im surprised all this isnt common knowledge among 'our culture' by now.
there are people out there who wont use newer phones cause of gps.
there are people out there who wont let a cell within 15 feet of business deals
 and peopled called them paranoid.. ha

A good way to detect if your cellphone is being used while it's on, is whenever it has an open connection, it causes massive interference with CRT monitors... You could use that as an alert. Your monitor starts buzzing when you're on a specific topic, be paranoid!
Dunno how accurate that is, but everytime someone's calling me, my screen will even vibrate like crazy and go wacko before the phone even says it has a call.

shit my screens always flippin out making that buzz noise and the phone never rings...Just figured my phone was doing something normal. I wonder if there watching me?
