 Mescaline Extraction Questions

Hello! I have been reading over some mescaline extraction methods lately and had a few questions i was wondering if anyone knew.
Out of the 2 ways of doing it, which is better, and why?
1. Acidify -> Solvent -> Basify -> Solvent -> Acidify -> evap
2. Basify -> solvent -> acidify -> evap
1 makes sense b/c you actually defat it... anyway...
At the end of the process, if you have your alkaloids in xylene, you just add small amouts acidic water until it doesnt seperate out neutral anymore (it becomes acidic)... but how much water should the final thing have? And if you use a lot of water in this stage, after you seperate it, can you boil\simmer it down to a small amount, THEN put it on the dish for evap?

and use about as much water as xylene
and yes pretty much but once you get to the end you will smell the acid so fan the air outdoors cause its not good for you and can kill you if you breathe it.

Thanks a lot! So why do you go with route 2? What have you noticed differently about using this route as apposed to the extra acid & defatting?

I have the extraction video and tried it that way
I also recently tried the alcohol method though and it was even easier. you end up with black tar but it works great

Yea I've seen the vid, and read a lot of teks...
I was thinkin, doing it Zim's way is prolly more of a whole cactus extract (which might have its benefits, complementary alkaloids and all)... 
Whereas when you do that extra acidifying + defating in the beginning, you get out more of the non-mescaline alkaloids? I donno, this just made sense to me...

or use alcohol or isopropyl,
get all of the alkaloids it seems.much easier as well
