Liberty cap season 2006 - The Netherlands.
    #6320536 - 11/30/06 06:02 AM (17 years, 3 months ago)

Hello,

The season for liberty caps had a slow start here in the northern part of Holland where i live. But the good thing about this year is that there are still plenty around because of the very mild weather we have been having.
This year i have been collecting some unusual big specimens
I have been picking from mid oktober until now and made some photographs you might enjoy.

Peace.

Quite nice!

When I first went out to explore the Flanders' fields some ten years ago, the liberty cap season used to start the second to third week of september, and lasted until the first frosts which were usually the first two weeks of november.

The last three years a distinct move happened due to climate change. Here the season also started mid october this year. At the local university A. muscaria var. muscaria is scattered all over. Ten years ago I found this species most commonly in september.

Maybe the season will last until january? Fingers crossed :P

Nice finds, a few of those large specimens are trophy size.
Great photos. Did you lay on the field to take those or do you have a camera with a view-screen that rotates(swivels)?

Thanks:) Yeah I made those pictures by putting the camera flat on the grass. It's a simple 3.2 mp minolta camera but it can still make pretty decent close up shots.
