Rust color Contams??

while in the jar one of my cakes started to have spots of rusty brownyness. i thought it was the myco piss i had heard so much about. well since birth ive seen no action. could this cake be extremely dehydrated? (i dunked it)or totally contaminated. i put it in a seperate terranium to see what happens. i dont want to give up on the little guy but im afriad i might have to

how long has it been incubating? i had a cake i forgot about for 6 months ... thought they were garbage because nothing colonized (except this one) ... then i get ready to clean these jars out and i fint that one is colonized..... it had a kinda brownish reddish color that looked like it was smeared accross the cake on a small portion of it....... i dont see any other contams so i'm guessing its from being dried out...... anyways i dunked the lil cake that could in water overnight and put in the FC ..... waiting on results myself...... keep me updated on how its doing.... i'll letcha know about mine

It sounds like your jar had some mold growing in it. Was the mold still there when you birthed the cake?

You can lift the cake up to get a feel for the moisture content by how much it weighs.
