Nice! Hericium are rare as hell here, never found one!

Looks like it's getting on a bit though... still edible by your reckoning???

Most of it looks pretty good, I just trimmed off the stuff that was old. It smells delicious. There were a couple of tiny baby ones growing, that I'll try to get back to in the next couple of weeks. I found it near Estacada, OR.

Remember where you found it. Those will come back on the same tree year after year. Mrs rabbit and I have picked over a hundred pounds of those this season in Washington State. You'll probably get another flush this year as well. Last year, I picked a five pound specimen near christmas when there was over a foot of snow on the ground already. They start appearing in August if there's been a rain.

In faerie circles perchance I might, hope Elven honey bread to find.
Over stream and tangled root I leap, o'er bough and slumbering badger's keep.
Under hoary oak and willow I bound, to find such groves as can be found,
the sating mushrooms; spring's delight, as gifts from figures of the night.

This is the second year I've hunted that spot for the Hericium. There are at least 4 different logs with them along a trail that is only about 1.25 miles. It's a sweet hike. Last year I also found some hedgies, but I think it was too early and we haven't had enough rain lately to find any.
