snow hunt 2006

First day of snow today, so i ditched my fall mushroom hunting gear for some warmer clothes, hopped on the the quad (I love riding it in the winter) and headed out across some our fields and to the woods. I haven't been able to hunt our farm for mushrooms for a couple weeks now since bow hunting started (some members of the family that live here on the farm are kinda nuts, they'd shoot me with a bow, thinking i was a deer, if they heard a twig snap). However the past few nights, I've been going out around midnight - 1:00am and hunting with a flashlight and I have been having luck finding mushrooms this way( I found my biggest patch of morels this year at 2:00am back in may). nothing too spectacular just a few random mushrooms, but when hunting in the dark anything seems a sucess.
Anyway, i figured it's the first day of snow around here, the hunters have all season, I'm gonna go get some pics... and here they are:

Oh wow, that's really pretty.
I wonder if that will kill the mushrooms. Could be helpful after it melts down.

thanks for the compliments, I remembered seeing an amanita out there the other night and thought that'd be a sweet pic with snow on it, so i started there and went on to find quite a bit. I only uploaded about 1/10th of the pics i took. The farm is really beautiful right now with all the snow and colorful leaves, can't even tell theres a road in the first pic (a road runs right through the middle of our farm ) .
Hunting Mushrooms in the snow is like a dream come true... maybe I'll make it out tomorrow couple of my favorite hunting hunting spots. They are really cool and unique pics, I'm glad I got them.
Just thought I'd share possibly the coolest pics I'll ever take with my friends here at the shroomery.
got a new avatar out of it too

Hey "TttM" do you know of any Finnish/Scandinavian Amanita Muscaria traditions or sources for information on such? Any help would be greatly appreciated right now!

I do not know any finnish or scandinavian amanita muscaria traditions.. also only one of the three orange ones is a verified amanita muscaria the others I'd say are amanita flavaconia if I had to guess. we get both around here often in the same areas. They look especially alike at a young age concetric rings are formed on the muscaria. only one of the three orange amanitas had any definate rings the first one pictured is what both seem to look like when young, a big bulbous base, but on the suspected flavaconias the bulb kinda disappears as it matures and its just a plain base of a stem with no rings... Like I said I do not know for fact they are flavaconia, but the difference between the two types of orange amanitas around here is completely unquestioned by me. The ones with the rings are obviously the amanita muscaria and i have had great experiences with using them recently.
