::repost...separate thread:: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post6126678
so i went to visit today(4 days after inoc.) Just starting to see a tiny bit of myc in a few little spots on almost all of the jars. Though i was a bit concerned about how dry the rye looks on the outside. Now i have done quite a bit of searching around about this....and it seems like dry looking rye is pretty common. Most seem to say it's good as long as the inside of the grain is wet. I got a pic maybe you guys can help clue me in to whats the deal with these?

Also sorry the pic quality isn't the best. got some glare from the flash...and couldn't retake cause i tried using some cheapo batteries in my camera. they don't like them. If you cant tell lemme know and ill try to get some better ones next time i am at my buds'.
Not all of that white is myc. in this pic just a little patch to the upper left hand corner of the big flash glare is. The rest is burst rye seeds. For some reason this pic makes the burst seeds look more plentiful then they actually are.
::update:: Friend says more myc is visible. He says it's spread all over the jar(probably from shaking after inoc.) He also said it's visible over most of the jar(s) but spread out far, and thin at all of the places that it is visible. ::end update::
Also would any of the above mistakes i made while making these jars likely contribute to the rye being too dry? it seems to me most real rye moisture problems i have read about have been too wet. but I'm a noob
As always thanks guys.
Much love

They are ok for moisture content and 4 days is fine too for spore germination and mycelium start. Be confident, you'll have complete jar in about 2 weeks. Good luck! wise gardener

WOW! This is almost exactly the same position I am in. The only difference is that I am using organic popcorn kernels as substrate instead of rye. Today is Day 5 after inoculation and 5 of 12 jars have complete mycelial coverage, but it is thin and fluffy. So, it has full coverage but it is not fully colonized (understand?). The others show isolated growth as well. Does this sound familiar? There is no sign of contams either. Good luck to you! Keep up the good work.

Went and looked today and wow....what a diffrence. They took off like a bat out of hell. I'd say they look at least 30% colonized. fairly thick myc /w decent rhizo's. No sign of contams.
I feel much better. phase one seems to be going well.
Thanks all here for sharing your knowledge and experiance.
Much love.
