ENERGY CRISIS THREAD

I started a thread in the Pub about this project, encouraging folks to invest in this because I think it will make them rich. FYI - I rarely if ever encourage anyone to invest in anything because there are always risks, so do your own research and make up your own mind.
www.oceanpd.com
I first saw it mentioned during a special on the discovery channel about these things, and they seem to be state of the art machines with great potential. They can harvest a ton of power with very little maintenance cost, and no significant impact on the environment. I expect them to be right up there with windmills eventually, unless an even better idea emerges.
Share your thoughts/ideas about this project, as well as any other projects you've come across that you think are genius.

i was at the beach last weekend and was wondering why we weren't using the power of breaking waves to spin turbines. i'd imagine there would be alot of maintainance from seawater rust and barnicles however. but hey, if we can go to the moon i'm sure we can beat salt water rust and barnicles.

Solar power and hydrogen are all we need to solve the energy/environment crisis...
But that would not be good for the economy, you can't sell something thats free.

If only solar power were free! But no, it still is expensive, because you have to COLLECT the solar energy, and that still is more costly than the grid electricity it produces.

Hydrogen does not exist naturally by itself. It is not economically feasible to use hydrogen as a power source at this time, and probably won't be for a while.

Wave power and wind power will be huge.
Infact wind is the fastest growing energy source in the world.

Sad but true.
PLEASE , all of you, download, who killed the electric car, either the movie, or the episode of the show NOW that talks about the movie, I have only seen the latter, but everyone should know about what we lost.

we still havent adressed transportational fuels, bio-diesel is going to be the start of this, and we will start seeing it more and more, in 2008 several car manufacturers are coming out in the usa with new diesel engines that meet the new EPA lower emissions standards put into place in 2007
btw go into google and search mike brigs (briggs?) algae bio-diesel actually here is the link http://www.unh.edu/p2/biodiesel/article_alge.html total freedom from foregn fuels, while still more costly at this point, technology will bring down the cost of these fuels.
I work about 10 hours a week on this issue, producing bio-d from algae, and think that i have finally overcome the $40,000/hectare costs, and also found a way to increase production above the 20/g/M^2(of water)/day
AS soon as i get my $$ back from my realestate i will be funding a research project into this technology, and working on site daily for it

Doesn't the ocean need its waves?
With alternative energy production there are two major forces at work, which are actual greenness and profitability.
For instance in many western nations the organic household waste is being collected separately from the regular waste. They say its for the enviroment, but this is not so: the landfills would detoxify much better if organic waste was thrown in the mix like it used to be, because it would feed microbes which are detoxifying.
So separating the greens from the greys is bad for the enviroment. Bad without question. But they do it because the compost made of those separated greens can be sold for $$$, so they say its for the enviroment but they're really saving a buck.
Burning "biomass" is a LOT less enviromentally friendly than burning oil, unless you have a quality installation which assures a high degree of combustion.
With green initiatives you must always look at it from a profit angle, but many of them are based on raking in profit more than saving the enviroment.
