Something like 0 for 12 with 9 K's actually. I don't worry too badly. A player of his caliber doesn't buckle this badly all the way through the final month of a season. I think he's bottoming out and I'm glad it's now, end of the season would be a good time to surge back. Well, we'll see.
What I worry about the most is Hideki Matsui's return. Melky Cabrera has been simply amazing for the Yankees this season, both defensively in left field and offensively. His bases loaded numbers are a great example of why I'm so up on the kid. I think when Matsui returns they should really put him in the DH slot for a the first few games at least. It's his position in left field next year but to alter the team chemistry too much could be detrimental to what's been awesome so far.

P.S. @ zappaisgod:
latest reports say Matsui is gonna play some minor league rehab games but that the only Yankee affiliate still playing games then will be the Staten Island Yankees - front row tickets behind home plate are 11 bucks.

That's a great heads up. Thanks. Unfortunately SI is a major schlep for me, I'm in Westchester. We'll see. My daughter loves Matsui, for some unknown reason. How's this for a postseason lineup: Damon L CF Jeter R SS Abreu L RF Rodriguez R 3B Giambi L 1B Sheffield R DH Matsui L LF Posada S C Cano L 2B
That right there is an all star team
And their pitching isn't much below the top. I am more confident than at any time since 2000.

I happen to really like Matsui too. I've got a thing for the Japanese though. With matsui out for most of the season though, I've become the town's biggest Johnny Damon fan.
That lineup does look sick. Cano in the #9 hole..that could work out brilliantly.
About SI, at least once you get to Manhattan the ferry to SI is free, and a beautiful ride at that.

When you get off the Ferry, there is actually a sign saying STADIUM ---->
and it is literally a 3-5 minute walk from the ferry terminal, well marked, and you can see the stadium as you approach. You dont need to actually go into Staten Island (blech) at all...I've been once, a couple of weeks ago. Good chicken fingers, cheaper beer than a major league stadium, and a good time in general.

Did you see the shot Abreu hit last night? If he finds his power stroke again that trade could be the biggest steal of all time.

The beautiful thing for you is that if ANYBODY else wins you can laugh at us for six months. Don't fall in love with that idea, though.

Who's going to beat you?
The Mets are the only NL team I think could have given you a run, and that would have been a close thing. With Pedro having that torn muscle, I dont think they have any chance.
I still, today, would take the White Sox over the Yankees in a 7-game series, but obviously that wont be happening.
I think the best thing for baseball would be to reassemble the NL All-Star team to make the World Series at least competitive.

We're Pedro's daddy anyway, it don't matter.
Honestly, with Pedro done for, I see the chances of a Subway series slimming if the Dodgers make the playoffs, because of the Cards, Astros, Padres and Dodgers, I think the Mets have the most to fear from the Dodgers. Astros would be second after that...shit that'd be a good series for the pennant.
Yankees vs. Dodgers would be a stellar World Series.

The only team that gives me any reason to put them at better than a 33% shot at beating the Yanks is Minnesota, and that's only in a 5 game series where Santana gets to pitch twice. Santana pitching twice in a seven game series isn't near as scary and if he does pitch 3 times he'll be on short rest at Yankee stadium. Looks like we may well get Detroit anyway although they have the tie breaker with the Twins.
I could get rich off of homer fans who actually invest in silly dreams like this one:
"I still, today, would take the White Sox over the Yankees in a 7-game series, but obviously that wont be happening."
No, it won't. They got a dream season out of their pitching staff in '05 and this year they returned to being who they are, mild mannered reporters. I'm not so sure they would have beaten the Yankees last year, either. Playoffs, man. Total fucking crapshoot. I sure wouldn't want to be seeing the Astros if I had a team in the (I)NL, and SD and LA have actually made a race by winning. Mets are in the toilet. Too bad Willie, you're a good guy.
