Youve got to remember nothing is perfect in this world from blackmarket LSD to the most pure chemical you could buy from a legit chemical supplier. Now, think Heterogeneous when you think of so-called dirty LSD. There will always be contaminants in extremly pure LSD, just like any other chemical, but thankfully the active dosage of LSD is so minascule it makes the impurities contained in the hit (unreacted ergot, shit like that)so small that they are no where near toxic doses. Now, bring in shitty LSD with say a 50/50 heterogeneous mixture per hit. Impurities go up and LSD content goes down. You have to take more doses for effect and therfore take more impurities.

Err, sorry. Kinda rattled on.
Its about the purity (less contaminants per hit). With less impurities the hit can hold more LSD per blotter (or whtever the injestion medium is).
