Pics - Blue-Green tinted base - First Grow
    #5846276 - 07/11/06 11:59 AM (6 years, 10 months ago)

Hi, I was just getting ready to harvest this lil guy when I noticed the blue-green bloated base. Is this ok? Or is my cake sick?

you should really stop picking those up though. if that is your first flush you should leave it in the fc . you dont want to get contam on the cake brfore your second and the cake turns blue when you pick them up and bruise them. it is probley blue from touching it

if you keep picking it up and fingering your cakes they will turn blue, its called bruising. or if the humidity isn't 95-100% in your FC your cakes could be drying out and bruising.. but if your still not sure get a clean q-tip and run it across the blue spot you think is contam, if the q-tip comes off clean then its bruising, if the q-tip has the blue/green color on it then there's a good chance its contams.

YOU DO NOT WANT TO FINGER/TOUCH/RUB/PINCH/POKE/ANYTHING YOUR CAKE UNTIL ITS TIME TO HARVEST!!!

i know its hard especially on your first few rounds.. but you must fight the urge!! once you put it in the FC there is no need to be touching anything!! just open and fan and mist.. thats all then put the lid back on and go do something else!! touching things only cuz problems!!

hope that helps out some,
will

Its bruising, don't worry. Cakes can handle you touching them, they are pretty resistant to contam...it will get more weary of contams later on.

Ok, thank you I really appreciate the responses... I just needed a little confirmation. Oh, and I am holding the cake by a small galvenized wire mesh base. I was not foolish enough to actually touch the cake. I only removed it to get a good picture of the blueing. And of course I sprayed the air with some oust and let it settle before taking the cake out. Thanks again for the responses.
