 Pressure cooker help

OK the cheap PC i've had I was able to use, but I bought an All American PC model 921 and i've been trying to get the psi up to 15 but i cant i dont know whats going wrong the little metal nipple thing point out is releasing air and the black little thing is to some what. I'm thinking that the metal nipple thing shouldn't. Anyone ever have this problem before or know what is going wrong that could please help me.

check to make sure the nipple is snug, there should be some escape from the vent
hole in it and make sure the weight is set at the 15psi mark

i had no idea about a weight . i dont see one where is it at. cuz i figured the metal nipple thing shouldn't just let the steam right out but i dont know

I would gather the "little metal nipple thing" is a toggle pressure release valve. Simply take it apart - clean it, put it back together & screw it back in the lid. Hard water often fouls one, with extended use.
I gather the "the black little thing"s a blow out plug, if you over pressure the PC. Soften some Vaseline in the microwave, then swab the rubber plug inside/outside with the Vaseline. Let it set over-night, then do it again. That should cure your problem.
IF NOT ------> replace both parts with new ones..

the thing is its brand new this is the first time i have used it i got it from pressure-cooker-outlet.com. are you suppose to see through the metal nipple at all. cuz i can on mine

Yes. There is a round weight pictured above that goes over the nipple. Check your box. The black plastic you see is the blowout valve. It will leak a bit as the PC comes up to pressure. It will seal when you get 5 pounds or so.
The procedure is to let steam vent from that nipple for five minutes or so, then put the weight on to allow pressure to build. when it reaches 15 lbs, turn the stove down to the minimum setting that will still maintain that 15 lbs.

Please dont tell me that you dont have the weight for your PC... I had to buy 3 friggin PCs before I got one with the weight in the box. (Pissed me the fuck off) People (it seems) have a nasty habit of buying the unit, snatching the (lost) weight and returning the unit. I ended up looking in the box itself (with a sales associate) before I bought the damn thing.

my brand new fagor one has no rocker its no pressure or 15 psi i love the new PC so much. think it was 90 something and holds 3 or 4 1 quart jars which is all i really need because i can always just take the jar out and put another in heh.

Don't use vaseline... vaseline is a petroleum product.... meaning it's derived from a solvent... which means... vaseline + rubber/plastic = corrosion. use KY jelly or a silicone based lube. don't use vaseline on plastic ever! especially rubber or latex

actualy thats part of what keeps it soft and plaible, water based lubs like KY will tend to let it dry out too much

if it dries out, get rubber conditioner. if you use petroleum jelly, you'll get pits in your rubber seals, and eventually they'll start leaking, then you have to replace your expensive seals and gaskets.
then again, i only work in a latex/polymer laboratory, so i probably don't know what i'm talking about

it's about $4 for the black pressure plug, and thats the only rubber on the All
American models, petroleum jelly is recomended for the metal/metal seal after 6
years I've not seen any sign of the plug in mine breaking down from vaseline

wow, metal to metal seal? nice! i have an old pc from the 40's, it works wonders but uses a rubber gasket around the lid. i was lucky, when i bought it from an antique store, it came with 6 gaskets in perfect condition. and i got it for 6 bucks.
but if there's nothing to replace, then go for it!

thats a hell of a bargain, I live in an 'antiqu town', 3 gas stations, 1 stop

OK so i ordered a metal pressure cooker weight. How exactly do i use it to set the psi. cuz Right now i'm just messing around with the pc and i taped the metal nipple to see if i could get it to work but it seems like its taking for ever to reach 15psi its been like almost a hour and i'm still at 0 psi the Gage hasn't even moved but i am using a hot plate to heat it and not a regular stove.
