 Fire Marshall out to get us(this is long)

Some of you may already know about the situation me and my family have been in in the last couple of months.
There was a fire in our house. Possibly caused by one of the 11 kids staying there. We're unsure about the cause.
The fire marshal or fire chief (whichever) first told us that we were going to be able to go back into our home that night. Then after an hour of waiting for everyone to leave, the man comes back and tells us that our whole electrical system does not comply with city ordinance. So, we had to move into a hotel. The fire department sent a letter to the city telling them that we needed our whole house rewired.
We call an electrician, but he can't a hold of any city or fire official for 3 weeks. Finally my mother goes to this fire marshals house who happens to live directly across the street from us  She demands to know why they haven't returned calls to our electrician about what needs to be done.
Finally, they call the electrician and tell him the whole house needs to be rewired period.
So the electrician goes in, inspects the house and tells us that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the electrical system. NOTHING.
We could have been living at home for the last month and a half.
See, my mother's BF has owned that house for 17 years. He's sort of the odd ball out of the neighborhood. He's got a bald head, covered in tattoos and drives a Harley. He's also the sweetest man I've ever known. He's like a Father to me. The city has always given him shit. That town acts like they are just to damn good for someone like that. He doesn't belong there. He's been harassed by them for years. Here's another example:
His son has a race car that he rarely uses. It's parked in our yard...the side of the house. It's registered and has tags yet the city has sent him to court 4 ties over it, claiming that it's an abandoned vehicle. It isn't and he's proven it over and over again. Still, they continue to send hi to court for it.
All previous charges have been dropped BTW.
They call the dog pound on us even though our dogs are tied up in our back yard ALWAYS. They just continue to give us shit. Sorry, I'm just pissed.
So back to the original story, the electrician tells us that we should file a lawsuit. They had no right to keep us out of our house because we were not violating anything.
My mother just got her settlement from another lawsuit, I'm not sure if she's up to going through another long process, but these people were wrong.
We were forced out of our house and forced to live 10 miles away. in a hotel where we've all been somewhat uncomfortable. It's been a crazy month.
Do you guys think that a lawsuit is in order. We have so much evidence against them.
They were wrong and me and my family suffered from this, you have no idea.
Should we sue the fire department and or the city??

Both. If you know you can win the case 100% straight up. Do it. Don't go into it just being pissed off about living in a hotel though. Did you and your family have to pay for renting of the hotel room(s)?

Insurance paid for most of it. We've had to pay the rest of it as well as gas for driving my kids back and forth to school for the last month and a half. (They used to walk, it was that close)
I just found out the city is charging us $150. for last months water bill. We haven't even lived there!

We've decided to do it. We're going to file a lawsuit against the fire marshal and the city we live in. Since both are at fault.

A lawyer will really have the best advice. I think you are completely in the right here. People can't pretend you are breaking a law because they have issues with anything different. Good luck!

Yeah, my mother waited 3 years for hers to finally settle. She deserves her money.
This case has nothing to do with money. This is about our rights. They don't like us. They'll do anything to get us out of there and they did...temporarily.
They will pay, whether it's the job that they lose or us exposing them to everyone.

If you go after the fire marshall, you'll lose.
If you go after the city/town, you have much better chances, believe it or not.
It really sounds like you all just need to get out of there.

Originally, the fireman said that the fire was cause by faulty electric. He had our electric turned off that day.
We hired our own electric man and he said nothing was wrong with it. The city sent a letter to us telling us that we needed to rewire the entire house.
The fire marshal told the city that it was an electrical fire. It was not.
Can he call it arson after he already declared that the fire was caused by electric? That was his doing. The city coincided with the fire department saying that the fire was caused by electric default.
It wasn't.
With that on record, I'm sure we have a case against them.

Fuck yes. Make them compensate you, at the very least, for the hotel stay and relevant expenses. They "evicted" you under pretense when your wiring was fine.
Don't take any guff from these swine.

A lawyer was hired today. We have a strong case against the city.
We are getting the fuck out of here, but until then, everyone here will know what they've done.
