no, but it does work better with certs or minty lifesavers and coke, unroll the
certs, make a paper funnel/roll, place the cert in the funnel and release all of
them at once into the bottle, look into the bottle to make sure it's working 
use a 3 liter and a whole roll of certs if you can to try this, it's much more impressive

I cannot tell what the guy in the second video's technique was.
Need something like mentos in a time-release capsule to drop in so you have time to cap it. What would work..?

no, the principal on which it works is the irregular surface giving bubbles
something to form on, in capsules it's just like dropping in the mentos
only when the caps disolve you;ll have a gooey mess at the bottom, that'll be well
after the erruption has occured
