Fasting
    #5673021 - 05/25/06 12:20 PM (6 years, 4 days ago)

I was thinking of fasting and taking a cleansing product for the next week. I'd love to know what experiences people have had on not eating for multiple days straight. I've done tons of research on the topic and my best bet is someething that requires 7 days of not eating accompanied by herbs and juice. Anyone?

Mainly weight loss and toning up. I'll be jogging/hiking or biking every day trying to burn off gordo at the same time. I realize it's not healthy but it's my way cause I have a contest with my wife to lose 15 lbs within the next 2 months.

I think its great personally. It gives your body a chance to clean out all the built up sludge and reserves everywhere. It gives you a ton of energy for not eating oddly. I recommend a three day fast before a seven day fast. Get used to it, acclimate your body to the idea of no food.

Big mistake people make is still continuing drug/alcohol use. No drugs, not even caffeine or nicotine while fasting!

If you google it, I'm sure you will get much helpful advice.

What built up sludge do you speak of?

Is there anyway you could speak a bit more "scientifically" about it?

I would like to know what this mystery sludge that no one will ever see,is.

Fasting is fine for detoxification or spiritual reasons, and if that is partially your intention, I can tell you a little about certain Native American fasting rituals my father has told me about.

Fasting to lose bodyfat, or "tone up" is a very, very bad idea. It just doesnt work. Your body will feed off of itself to maintain homeostasis, but because muscles are easier for your body to break down than fat is, you will end up losing mostly muscle and water wieght. While you might lose the 15 lbs. before your wife does, if you are trying to get into shape, it will be counter productive to lose all that muscle.

Look up "cutting" on bodybuilding.com, that will give you a much more effective long term wieght loss method.

Good luck on getting those 15 lbs. off, though!

ah over weight people need to eat less.

but yeah man you need to do more than that. I recommend intense running, go to a fitness center, go on the treadmill, do about 10 minutes everyday, set the treadmill at the highest speed that you can possibly do. Do this every day. You'll be exhausted but its only 10 minutes anyway, after that go sweat in the sauna

You got raise your metabolism to burn fat. This is easiest way to shed fat quick.

When I don't eat, I feel quite crappy and angry. I think I can't live for more than 2 days with no food. My body metabolizes stuff so fast.
I normally eat something every half hour, at least.

I fast occasionally (like once or twice a year). I think 7 to 10 days of only water (or other noncaloric beverages) can be a good thing for your mind and body.

Just be prepared to feel like shit for the first 3 days. The third day is the worst. You'll feel like you got hit by a truck on all sides. But if you can make it past day 3, you'll experience a wonderful ephoria and you won't even be hungry anymore. You'll get your energy back and you'll feel like a new person.

But I think the juice and herb stuff is a load of BS. There's nothing advantages about drinking only juice (unless of course if you're recovering from a jaw injury or something like that).

Still be careful when you break the fast though. Don't break it with a t-bone steak or else you'll make yourself really sick (I mean, you won't die or anything, but it's just not a good thing to do to yourself). Start out with easy to digest stuff like crackers, pasta, some fruits, etc...

Fasting is more for the purpose of cleansing toxins from the body internally. And for this purpose I would recommend eating nothing but raw, ripe.. fruit and fruit juices and herbs for a week, instead of not eating. Instead of starving yourself, eat as much fruit as you like.. acidic ones like oranges, apples, grapes, lemons, grapefruit.. currants, berries, bananas, mangoes.. whatever is good. The different acids in the fruits will give your body the cleansing.. while providing you with most of the vitamins, fiber, and water that your body needs. Without fiber the colon can atrophy from lack of bulk. Go on a fruit and water diet for a week.. you will be eliminating all kinds of crap from your system. From there you can ease yourself onto "fuller" but easily digested grains and vegetables like sweet potato, tomato, leeks, spinach, and hot cereals and so on, so as not to wreak havoc on your digestive tract.

For herbs I would start with goldenseal daily, as a general detoxifier and blood purifier/anti-bacterial/immune system booster. From there you can go into any number of directions, and I suggest you research all the herbs yourself. But I would recommend cayenne pepper to go with goldenseal.. they are a very potent combination. You would also benefit by drinking herbal teas during your "fast" or cleansing diet with the likes of peppermint, lemongrass, chamomile, ginseng, gingko biloba, etc... I would also recommend alfalfa as a 'supporter' herb as it is LOADED with vitamins, minerals, essential acids, flavonoids, fiber, and so on that your body needs. It is one of the most nutritious foods known to man, second only to hemp.

So basically if you are going to try this diet.. eat tons of raw, fresh, ripe fruit. 5 or 6 times a day. Don't mix more than 2 or 3 different kinds of fruit in one meal as the different acids can react with each other and create unpleasantness in your stomach. Like for example for breakfast I would eat acidic fruits... 3 or 4 oranges, grapefruit, maybe a lemon or cantaloupe. For lunch maybe a bunch of strawberries, grapes, watermelon.. etc. And drinking tons of water in between meals. Basically just eat whenever you are hungry.. don't sweeten fruit with sugar.. if you must... use honey or malt sugar.

The idea is not to starve your body. It is to give it what it needs to function while at the same time giving yourself a healthy "cleansing" diet, that will quite literally purge the toxins from your system. You will feel like a million bucks. Just have to watch your diet afterwards.. as greasy, processed, fried foods etc can really hurt after cleansing your system out.

You gotta make it past day 3... after that your body goes into total ketosis (when your brain starts using ketones instead of glucose for energy). It's at that point that you start to feel good again (often euphoric even).

I've attempted fasting before, it was only from sunrise to sunset... my church had requested voluntary fasting and prayer.

I was an irritable prick the whole day. I can stand skipping a night's sleep, but when I skip meals things get ugly.
