apparently. im kind of quiet, kinda introverted like a lot of people. i just want to take care of my shit and go about my business, but i always feel like everyone's pulling my focus in different directions. i dont mean to be a dick, but sometimes i just dont have anything to say to people.
this one jackass called to file a claim yesterday (i work at an insurance company) and i took his claim like i would anyone else's. at the end of the call he's like "are you having a bad day? why couldn't you be nicer?" i wanted to tell him that from now on, id hold him by the balls every time he took a step and to grow the fuck up and just handle his shit without needing his hand held, but i cant talk back like that.
anyways... am i an asshole or are there just a lot of pussies that need to be coddled their whole lives?

I would rather someone be nice to me when I'm calling to make a claim then to have some guy give me an attitude. I wouldn't mention it to you though, I would just figure you were some asshole.  I'm not a pussy who needs to be coddled either, I just like some common courtesy when dealing with people.

I've told customer service reps and the like that they are acting like assholes before. I mean, look, I'm paying for something and I call to get help and the guy/lady who answers the phone acts like a shit to me. And if I've been in an accident or my shit got messed up I'm probably not feeling to fucking happy myself. So, I'd like some fucking courtesy. This happened to me with State Farm after hurricane Rita. My house was all fucked up and I call to get some info on my claim and the bitch acts impatient with me. I wanted to fucking beat the bitch, but since I couldn't I just said: "Why are you being a bitch?"

well what else am i supposed to say? i mean, seriously, i try to be courteous but i want to get to the point at the same time because im sure theyve got other shit to do than sit on the phone all day. problem is, people call here and act mad at me personally for something i dont even have control over. i didnt cause the damn hail storm.
am i supposed to offer to blow them or something?

I think... like others have said... that when it comes to being in a customer service industry, you have to be nice (whatever that means).
The thing is, if you have this kind of attitude, chances are that anything you're going to say is going to sound bitchy. I think you need to actually want to be nice to these people or else it's not going to happen. I say this because you seem like the kind of person who can't fake anything well.
Socially though... I think your introverted, "suck-it-up" attitude is just fine as long as you have friends that get you.

i think i just need a new job. i dont think im well suited for this one. im pretty sure other aspects of my life would be a lot more enjoyable if i didn't dread coming in everyday. then maybe i wouldn't have the tendency to be so asshole-ish.

Thats the kind of work you have to put up with in that business. You have 2 options:
Deal with it
or
quit.
If some incompetent fuck was giving me trouble, whether it be an attitude or whatever, while I called for a claim, I would immediately ask for their supervisor. Don't be childish, shutup and do your job.
I hate it when people do this. It seems like everyone in the customer service industry has a chip on their shoulder, like they are owed something.
Hey, you're the one who decided to work there. If you don't like dealing with people, go work at a morgue, or the local dump.

I have the same personality type as you. I tried doing phone technical support for AOL for 6 months and hated every minute of it. I finally found a job that doesn't require me to deal with stupid people, actually no one but my co-workers. Well, a few of them are stupid. Find a job that fits your personality friend.

I dunno, I think ya could stand to show a bit of pity, especially considering your job.
I like it when people speak with kindness to me, and I think I ought to do the same whenever possible.
Your description of yourself sounds like me, actually.
I spend my work hours pouring myself out for people i don't know, "bending over backwards" to make a space where they can feel welcome, soothing their jangled nerves, relieving chronic pain etc.
When I get off work, I have the most exquisite sensitivity to people's selfishness and bad attitudes.
I usually withdraw from people personally so that I have the luxury of shotgunning their political and racial prejudices rhetorically.
But my friends do mostly consider me crazy... does that answer your question?
