White wine for taste, red for intoxication.

It really depends on what you are eating. A really cheap trick rule of thumb is red meat - red wine, white meat, white wine, cream sauce-white wine, marinara sauce - red wine.
I'm not sure what you mean about the lilies...are you putting the flowers in the wine?

I think for your flower extraction, I would use white. White is best refrigerated, so you can let it steep at room temp(I would say a month is good, I read your post in the ethno forum), then ice it. Colder is better when it comes to deadening taste buds and not getting the full flavor of something, which if you don't drink wine, I recommend.

I like red a lot more if I just want to get drunk, but like everybody says it depends on what you're eating.

For some reason all the expensive wine I ever had tasted like nasty, sour vinegar to me. (It's kind of like how "good" cheese tastes like ass.) I actually prefer the cheapo mid level sweet wines like you get at Olive Garden or something.
I dunno, red wine gives me a nasty headache because of the tyramine (stuff that will kill you on certain antidepressants) and stuff in it...so white.

Red all the way. I like the warm buzz it gives me (especially in cold weather) but the hangover can be especially rough.

Friends don't let friends drink white wine....nah but in all seriousness, find a flavor that suits what you are eating or if you are drinking for pleasure one that agrees with your taste buds. Any mid-priced Shiraz is a good starter wine, it has a smooth, floral taste; definitely my favorite grape. White zinfandels are a nice blush with a very fruity taste, many non-wine drinkers enjoy it as it doesn't carry that strong bite like a deep red.
As far as white wines there is the traditional Chardonnay, they can vary greatly depending on the price/quality but in general are easy drinking with a nice flavor. I tend to stay away from Pinot Noir/Champagne because I think they are repulsive, but your mileage may vary.

Technically, all cheese is rotten by definition.

Red all the way. Old expensive reds. The only reason I drink wild Turkey nightly instead of wine is because I can't afford my taste in wine. I can drink some cheaper wines but they really start getting good at about $30.00 a bottle imo.
I once was given an old chateauneuf du pape. It blew my mind how damned good that wine was. I still think of it often. I went in search of more but could only find that same for $87.00 a bottle at the cheapest. The scariest part was that I was almost bought some anyway. It was that good. The funny thing was the guy who gave it to me didn't know shit about wine. Someone stole it off of a truck and since he didn't like wine but knew I loved it, gave it to me.
I've wondered how one could go about investing in wines on a small scale. I've bought $20.00 bottles of wine before and watched the price for that wine go to over $90.00 in a years time. That's one hell of a return for something that just has to sit there for a bit. Pretty safe too. A good wine from a good year doesn't lose value.
