 A mushroom growing from my head (Cordyceps pics)

Today i received some Cordyceps samples and i can tell you they are very smelly. I just took some pics:
Look at me, i'm a caterpillar with a mushroom growing from my head!
Look at us, we're three caterpillars with three mushrooms growing from our heads!

Very interesting! What do they smell like? Can you describe it? I bet kinda dank earthy funky ass dead cricket smelling.....

They are kinda dank earthy funky ass dead cricket smelling, with an overall tone of putrification.

I received them as Cordyceps sinensis. At this moment i have no intention of growing them. I just have these three dead caterpillars and no culture.

You should try at least one or two germinationes for us. Im sure you got some ingrediants and dishes over there you can use.... common dont make me beg.....

Could you start them on live meal worms, or supper worms.
Any info on how it's transfered in the wild?

There is plenty of info out there. But the thing is the way it infects its host is much like a virus. But then it colonises its host killing it, the host falls to the ground winters over and soposidly fruites in the spring. Dont quote me on this though.

I'd be very interested in getting my hand on a live culture of cordyceps sinensis. Somebody let me know if there are cultures to be had, I'm willing to compensate.

yes very interesting! the idea of cloning from dried mushrooms has also got me thinking of looking for some dried senesis... may be the only/cheapest way of getting a culture... has anyone ever tried this?
