i will put together a list of questions that are asked on a daily basis and edit this post with them in it later.
i love the idea of the mushroom lifecycle!!!! i Would like to extend it a little with rough estimates of when pinns will be mature. question gets asked a lot.
actually i like all the ideas in the post from Nunbuh_Chrubble especially the water what kinds to use
agar recipes & how to ~basic agar.
sterilization Alcohol & gases.
differance between casing and spawning
Microwaving Vermiculite~question gets asked every day!!!!!
GROWTH PARAMETERS~ for spawn run, incubation, fruit initiation, fruit body development.
INITIATION STRATEGIES
EVEN PINNSETS~ HOW TO, TIPS& TRICK
WHEN DO SPORES DROP
WHAT TO DO WITH GRAINS
I can't afford a pressure cooker what 2 do
I inoculated THE JARS 5 DAYS AGO AND NO GROWTH
HOW IMPORTANT IS LIGHT AND WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE
ALTERNATIVE SUBSTRATES
ALTERNATIVE CASING MATERIALS
DUNKING CAKES & CASINGS
AGAR/LC ~honey water tek
air exchange...what is the purpose and how much
glove boxes & designs.
cool mist or ultrasonic which is right for you.
SYRINGES HOW LONG THEY LAST & OLDEST USED & HOW MANY JARS YOU CAN DO WITH 1, are frozen ones still viable, can they be reused and how
myco bags
PASTEURIZATION A WHOLE SECTION ON DIFFERANT METHODS OF...
OUTDOOR TEKS
DIFFERANT KINDS OF POO AND HOW TO TREAT IT AND WHAT KINDS WORK
I CAN'T FIND...(jars, vermiculite, perlite,ect.ect.)substitutions
HUMIDIFICATION & HYGROMETERS~ includeing ultrasonic and cool mist
HOW MUCH CALIUM CARBONATE/H2O2/CALCIUM NITRATE SPAWN RATIO
yeild/biological effeciency
CASING LAYER NOT COLONIZING WHAT TO DO/ SCRATCHING & PATCHING
SPORE PRINTING~ agar's new print mailer method, mass printing, and the classic fold over double print tek ect.
GRAINS~ a list of differant kinds of grains used list of most commonly used grains includeing but not limiting WBS, grain transfers and preparation. TO SOAK OR SIMMER,MAYBE SOAK AND SIMMER.
POOR MANS POD~ i have an updated plan drawn out for linking 3 tubs with one pump and 3 air stone.
MARTHAS ~HOW TO SET ONE UP

One quick thing is you might want to update some of the info on casing layers. In the FAQ it advises a casing layer 1/4th the size of the substrate layer, but as of late it is most recommended to have a casing layer maybe half that size.

Just around the cultivation forums. Members like coda, Wronguy, and agar have said a 1/2 in casing layer is much too thick for a 2 inch substrate depth, and is more suited for a substrate depth of like 4 inches. I suppose it could be misinformation, I just figured it was one of those cases in which the that which used to be recommended was revised. I suppose it's just like thenewguy said, it being more of a personal preference.

Interesting. Would you mind linking to those posts so I can see in which context these recommendations were made?

I would like to be able to edit my posts in the FAQ's. i.e. I have put comments beneath some FAQs and would like to add more info or change some without adding a whole new comment.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5077709 Here's one where Roadkill and coda say they use thinner layers.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5157601 Here's one where Wronguy recommends the same.
Perhaps I was premature in my suggestion. I myself have not experimented with casing thickness nearly enough to give a definitive answer as to which is better. It's just that the cultivation forum has basically been my teacher for the past few months and I hold what the more experienced guys tell me as truths. I had just figured that the FAQ was made several years ago and as these guys experimented over time, they discovered the original ratio may be too thick.

I can only quote from Paul Stamets and J.S.Chilton: The Mushroom Cultivator:
"The correct depth to apply the casing layer is directly related to the depth of the substrate. Greater amounts of substrate increase yield potential which in turn puts more stress on the casing layer. Prolific first and second flushes can remove a thin casing or damage its surface structure, thereby limiting future mushroom production. A thin casing layer also lacks the body and moisture holding capacity to support large flushes. AS A GENERAL RULE, THE MORE MUSHROOMS EXPECTED PER SQUARE FOOT OF SURFACE AREA THE DEEPER THE CASING LAYER. Agaricus growers use a minimum of one inch and a maximum of two inches of casing on their beds. Substrate depths of six to eight inches are cased 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches deep. Substrates deeper than 8 inches are cased 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep. Nevertheless, experiments in Holland using casing depths of 1 inch and 2 inches demonstrated that the deep casing layer supported higher levels of microorganisms and produced more mushrooms. (See Visscher, 1975). To gain the full benefits of a casing layer, an absolute minimum depth on bulk substrates is one inch. For fruiting on sterilized grain, the casing need not be as deep as for fruiting on bulk substrates. Shallow layers of grain are commonly cased 3/4 to 1 inch deep."

I was just reminded of the Download Archive under the cultivation resources page.
I really liked that, as often I am off line but have time to do some reading.
It's a great resource to have but again it could be updated along with the rest.
Just thought I would make a mention, so it does not get over looked.

I think it would be cool if there was something that described the potency of the many different species of shrooms.

I think a faq along the lines of the archive layout that mycotopia.net has would be the most effecient and user frendly thing to do. You should make a category for just about every possible shroom cultivation data available. For example:
Agar
Cloning
Printing/Syringe
Fresh Air Exchage & Humidity
Lighting
Contaminations
Step by Step Tutorials (with sub categories: Flow-hood, glovebox, Marthas, etc)
Grain Substrate
Manure Substrates
Harvesting & Drying
Sterilizing & Pasteurizing
Cakes
Casings
Spawning
Liquid Culture
Water Moisture and Misting
Spores
Incubation
Fruiting
Dunking
Mushroom Development (this could be like general info on all the various stages of a mushrooms life cycle. Mycelium, Knotting, Prmordia, Pinning or water other stages their are.)
Etc, etc, etc..
You could start collecting new threads using the search tool to build it together with the information that their already is in the faq. But I think each category should have enough information so that any question a person might have will be answered. Im sure that just anout every question has already been answered, just need to look through the posts.
