What the mushroom says about itself is this: that it is an extraterrestrial organism, that spores can survive the conditions of interstellar space. They are deep, deep purple - the color that they would have to be to absorb the deep ultraviolet end of the spectrum. The casing of a spore is one of the hardest organic substances known. The electron density approaches that of a metal.

I couldn't figure out whether the mushroom is the alien or the mushroom is some kind of technological artifact allowing me to hear the alien when the alien is actually light-years aways, using some kind of Bell nonlocality principle to communicate.

i love it! and am now a profound follower of him... actually that came from an HUGE article he wrote about quantem physics and psychedelics... really opened up more doors in my mind... it was amazing reading... it was at the tryptamind website... i can get the link if anyone is interested.

It's not a theory, it's a hypothesis.
A theory is something which has been run through tests and has held true. Something which has proven to be most likely true.
In science not only are the two words not interchangeable, but to think that they are is to be forever thought of as a dumbass.
Of course in common language people tend to use the two words as though they were synonyms. It annoys the living hell out of me.

As a general rule you can only call something a theory if it meets a couple criteria.
1. You or someone else come up with an experiment to test it. The experiment must have controls and should be thorougly documented and explained so as to be repeatable. You conduct the experiment and it holds true. The controls show that it cannot be due to a factor you have not explained.
2. You publish your findings. Other people, following your procedure for the experiment, conduct repetitions of the experiment on their own in order to test it for themselves. They find the same truthful result that you did.
Essentially if something gets to that point it's a theory. Although in reality the scientific community also likes to come up with a number of different experiments also. Ones that are specifically intended to try and disprove your theory. If those experiments fail to do so, then it's a lot less controversial to call something a theory.
I'm not very familiar with any of the prominent (or non-prominent) psychedellic figures, so I don't know if any of them ever actually managed to produce a theory.

I've been lazy in that respect.
I'm often too preoccupied with the science and hard fact to go and read about the philosophy, experience, and history.
