Some frost-dried liberty caps and worms (+pics)
    #5265768 - 02/05/06 11:07 AM (18 years, 1 month ago)

I suddenly decided to check up my fresh-frozen lib caps I put into the freezer in October. Earlier, a month or two ago, I put some desiccant into the jar with mushrooms. Recently I noticed some of them had alomst dried out:

One of the biggest and oldest caps sheltered these nasty worms:

They appeared right away I defrosted the caps. Just wondering, do worms trip when they eat magic mushrooms? If they do, the poor fellows had a romantic death

and the virdict is...? Are they bad? Did you eat any?
Those larva survived the deep freeze? There was a thread quite a while ago as to slimies, as most are so small  at the time of picking that they are difficult to see with the naked eye(they also hide well). The question came up about potentially dangerous
parasites especially where [bovine] dung was involved. It was decided that there wasn't enough proof of anything to worry about.
Which is why if I had shrooms that I even suspected nasties, I'd make a tea :stoned:

Chances are the worms won't hurt you. They are just a sign of the general nastiness of your shrooms. With some proper boiling it will be fine - you'll get some protein with your trippy snack. I guess that if it wasn't the middle of winter and you could go pick some more I'd suggest you do that, but conditions being what they are... enjoy.

The worms were definitely dead. I noticed them only on the single cap which I remember was old and even rotten a bit when it was fresh. I was going to toss it that time but greed won and I kept it   I don't think mushroom eating worms could be dangerous to consume, regarding I always make a tea of diried\frozen mushrooms. Anyway, I tossed this nasty cap away
Probably some invisible parasite microorganisms are potentially more dangerous than live or dead worms.
