I forgot to put the silicone in too. I actually just squirted some in and put it in the pressure cooker for 45 minutes. Everything came out with a bit of a film on the outside but it turned out fine. The silicone dried and the lc's were fine. You should definitely be fine good luck
p.s. I'm not sure if the film was because of the silicone or if it was normal ???  oh well it was fine anyway

You can just wrap teh top in foil for a little whole while it drys.

You really don't even need the silicone, if you use an outer cover. The factory hole will only open under pressure, so it serves to equalize any vacuum in the bottle, or excess pressure from colonization. If you leave the bottles in the covered sterilizer until cool, only sterilized air will enter through the factory perforation to equalize the partial vacuum created from cooling. As the LC froths up from colonization, the excess pressure from inside the bottle is allowed to escape, but contams can't enter against the flow. Extraction of the LC with a syringe through the neoprene nipple is self-healing, if the gauge of the needle is reasonably small. I use the plastic storage cover that comes with the bottle to keep bacteria laden dust from settling into the inverted nipple. Loose tinfoil, coffee filter, etc. could also be used as a dust shield. Just my 2 pence, your mileage may vary.

My impression was that the silicone was only there for self healing purposes since the needle we generally use is huge. I agree with the above post though. you should be fine by just putting the protective plastic cap on after you'r done, and yeah the nipple is self healing to an extent as well. good luck

You can also grab one of the glass bottles and try them out. None of the other bottles felt as strong as the even flow ones so i advice getting the evenflow. they have'm at target and walgreens. cheaper at target

yeah give the bottle a while to cool down. it doesn't really matter what temp you innoc at. just make sure you put it in some sort of incubator or warm temps after innoc. You don't wanna rush into knockin it up and kill all the spores. better safe than sorry
