anyone know what the most common LC contams are, or what it would look like?
(if i had time before work i would post pics)
i have a Mexi-cub karo LC. i thought it was kicking ass, now i'm wondering if this is an ass-kicking contam rather than myce.
the water/karo is still completely clear. there are a LOT of white PUFFS (extremely whispy) in the bottle, and large clumps of this material (like clouds - but not like my B+ clouds!)
the reason for concern is that in the middle of many of these puffs is a dark center without obvious spores - just dark.
i'll post pics tonight if need be. any ideas here?

iff you have two different things growing in there then your chances are that one is a contam. and on your "puffs" are you sure its not just spores. sorry its kinda hard without a pic i think.

It's hard to say without pics, but, I cultured some Mexicana-A and it looked like what you describe. The mycelium grew in clumps that almost looked like little puffed cubes at first, the center was darker because of the density. I'm not sure if it was because I didn't shake enough... but after it grew more, it took on the milky cloud look. I've seen other pics of LCs with lots of these clumps/puffs.

yeah, i know. i just tried using my gf's digicam to get a pic of this, but it cant get a hi-res shot to where you can really see it clearly.
its not 2 different things. and, no, i'm NOT sure that it isn't spores. could be, but the thing is - the puffs are dark in the center and it kinda spreads out. in all my other LC's i can SEE the spores and the myc growing from them. this one just looks funky.
didn't know if there are look-a-likes in the LC world -- like the cobweb mold of the liquid realm...
another key factor here is this:
this mexi-cub syringe had been previously used on 2 pf jars as a tester (since this was an OLD syringe). both jars got multi-color mold, including black mold. i had put the blame on the syringe since i did the SAME test with a Penis Envy syringe that was just as old. i got no growth whatsoever - not even a contam.

i've seen something like that in a Mex A LC... looks like a poppyseed in the middle of white myc, right?
I don't think it's a contam... I figure it's a tiny stone... the one I saw didnt propagate like you'd expect a contam to do

the puffs look like dandelion puffs (seed), that's the best way i can describe it. that's how whispy they are. some are all white and some are bigger - dark in the middle and white/off white in the edges.

The best pic of LC I've ever seen was taken on a window sill. The sunlight hit the jar just right... clear as day
