Java Chat

For the past few months I have been having trouble logging into the IRC chat using both the java and IRC client. I just cannot seem to connect to the sever. Not behind a router, and I've turned off my application based firewall, still no luck. Also tried to set my IE settings to low with no luck. Tried firefox, no luck. Out of ideas here.
Here's the message I get when trying to connect:
"Unable to connect : java.net.ConnectException : Connection timed out : connect"
and
"java.security.cert.CertificateException: Could not find trusted certificate"

bump
Any ideas?
I think the problem started in November when the chat server was "upgraded to support SSL connections."

Hey,
I spent a while trying to reproduce this problem with no luck. One thing I thought of - are you using the Sun or Microsoft virtual machine? If you've never installed Java, or if it was so long ago you don't remember, please try grabbing and installing the latest version from Sun. I'll be interested to hear if that has any effect.
Peace,

Updated Java: still no luck connecting.
I was looking around the Java Control Panel and under the Security tab there is something about Certificates. That seems to be the problem I'm having it's not recognizing some SSL certificate. When I click "Certificates" there are none listed. Should there be anything there?
Thanks for your time man.

have you tried to connect from a standalone irc client (like mirc?)? that might do the trick... browsers oftentimes get screwed up setting built into them

Looks almost like its some kind of IE setting. Try turning you IE security to low temporarily to see if it fixes it. Also try launching into it from another browser like firefox. If it works in firefox im sure its some stupid IE trusted Root Certificate issue.

After updating Java it's now working in FireFox.
