OC Soundtracks

Recently a friend gave me a CD that was 'Song from the OC: mix 4'
I laughed and made a half ass attempt to listen to it, skipping to the next song after only hearing about 45 seconds of each song.
Oh a whim I just happened to listen to it for real because someone told me Imogen Heap was good, and she had a song on that CD.
OMG
That whole CD is amazing, and I've actually went out and bought CDs by sme of the artists on it. I live in Oklahomo so my selection is very limited since the soundtack almost exclusively featured indie bands. Modest Mouse is the only mainstream band; however modest mouse has been around a while and JUST became mainstream after 'float on'... Imogen Heap is amazing, and I still can't find her latest release locally. Guess I'm going to have to break down and got it online.
I bought mixes 1 and 2... mix 3 is xmas songs... then I have mix 4 from a friend, and mix 5 was on my xmas list. if i didn't get it I'll get it afer xmas.
anyway, don't be fooled or write off the OC soundtracks just becuse they're from a juicy prime time soap on Fox.
I guess if you've ever sat through a few episodes you'd see adam brody's character 'seth' is kinda this geeky guy who is into the indie scene, and these 'mixes' are kinda like CDs his character burned.
So yeah.
Give them a shot. I'd suggest starting with Mix 4. the best IMHO

modest mouse became mainstream after appearing on the O.C

well, if the average person looked at the tracklist on the OC Soundtrack, the only band they'd recognize is Modest Mouse... The Killers and Jet have tracks on the first two mixes, but they were practically unheard of at the time those CDs were released.
A few of my faves- Goodnight & go and Hide & Seek - Imogen heap Eve, the apple of my eye - Bell X1 Hardcore days softcore nights - Aqueduct Fortress - pinback Honey and the moon - joseph aurthor How good could it be - the 88 Dice - Finley Quaye & william orbit You got me all wrong - dais maios little house of savages - the walkmen (i also suggest 'we've been had' by the walkmen) trouble sleeping - the perishers on the table - AC Newman cartwheels - the reindeer section
OC also produced some decent covers: Bryan Adams covered Oasis' "Wonderwall" - BETTER than the original! Matt Pond PA covered Oasis' "Champagne Supernova" - Matt Pond PA really didn't take ownership, it sounds almost identical Nada Surf covered OMD's "if you leave" - sounds a lot like the original, except the singer is better and no synhesizers. I hate the original version, Nada Surf's is tolerable. At least they don't sound like Mr Ed with one of those guitar/keyboard hybrids.
So yeah.
If you're really interested in PM me and I'll see about burning you a CD with all these songs.

Yeah. I could not actually seriously listen to that. That's on a par with owning The Girl Next Door Soundtrack or something.

I cannot, for the life of me, listen to indie. It lacks any fucking backbone. And I had the misfortune of hearing Imogen Heap on NPR and jesus christ it sucked. She was singing through a synthesizer chorus thing. HORRIBLE. Gimme rock and roll. At least that has some spine. Indie is weak limp wristed sagging tit rock that's on a respirator 'til the end.

No, not really. It actually has good music on it, no matter how shitty the show is.

Bryan Adams covered Oasis' "Wonderwall" - BETTER than the original!
The original is a gem and I don't think Ryan comes close to it all. If anyone wants to check out some real badass Ryan Adams grab 'To Be Young' off of the album 'Heartbreaker'.
I'll further the AC Newman kicks ass sentiment, 'Miracle Drug' always puts me toe tapping mood. And for anyone who dosn't know you have to check out his collaborative super mega group 'The New Pornographers'.
The show truly has kick ass music on it and has made me a fan of many of their featured bands.
