Morning Glory? *UPDATED WITH PICTURES*
    #5145258 - 01/05/06 10:52 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

Hello all,

I was just outside tonight when I noticed white flowers along my fence.  I have seen some pictures of the morning glory flowers, and these look just like it. it has the Heart shaped leaves and the big flowers.

I noticed some pods on the vine so i picked it.  Each pod had about 2-4 seeds in it. the seeds look like black coffee beans, each about the size of your pinky nail.

I'll take some pictures in the morning.

Does this sound like morning glory to you?

unless you have tiny fingernails the seed sounds too large. and (at least where i'm from) it's uncommon to find the white flowering strain growing wild, so i'd probably guess it's not morning glory, sorry.

but get a photo to be sure

Okay here are the pictures, plus pictures of the same vine w/ smaller purple flowers.

Here is the picture of the white flower unfolding.

This is what the flower looks like before opening.

Side view of the flower w/ what seems to be little buds.

Leaf Shape

Seed pod. Each holding about 3-4 seeds.

Size of seed.

Smaller Purple flower on what seems to be the same vine.

Purple flower unfolding.

And what the whole mess looks like altogether.

So whats the final verdict, Morning Glory or some wild weed.
Hope you all enjoy the pictures. And thanks again for visiting/posting.

Hi,

this is Ipomea volubilis
A hybrid or something
Tried it's potency, they're potent but I puked more than I tripped
It's worth the try to eat them.
They have much smaller flowers than the Ipomea violaceae. Find it much more attractive, with the pink and the white

Good luck with it

Ipomea volubilis??

Is that the white flower or the pink?
I have no experience with morning glory, can anyone else verify that?
thanks

nice pics. looks like MG to me, but im no expert. MG is a beautiful plant  i plan to get a nice patch of them growing this spring. from what ive read you can also make a drink out of the flowers. i've tried googling for information but only find sites about using seeds to trip and nothing about using flowers for a drink.

What I know about this 'morning glory wine':

Take a bunch of flowers (don't know how much, I guess the more the better, or you could count: if you need 250seeds to trip, then you would need at least 50flowers to have the same amount of unformed seeds. Don't listen to me, I'm just guessing) and let it sit in a bottle of pure water for some weeks.
This gives you a not so strong psychedelic wine
Never tried it though

If you want to go the Mornin g Glory (yuck) route, order some Hawaiian Baby Woodrose off the net. You only have to eat 10 or 12 seeds to get a strong trip...but morning glory sucks. I mowed the yard while tripping on morning glory once, but I kept getting nauseous and dizzy.

I'd say it's two plants that have intertwined when they grew.

One of them does most certainly look like morning glory.

The other I have no idea about.

Add sugar, a few dried figs or raisins(just a few of each)..
Add yeast and all the flowers and the water ( bottle 2/3 filled with flowers[lightly stuffed], then water poured over to top it off)
Let this mixture sit for 14 days in a warm place Stirring daily
Strain off liquid and squeeze the cheesecloth hard to get all the flower juice into your(glass) container.
Let this mixture sit for 30 days without disturbing. After 30 days siphon off the clear liquid leaving behind the tan residue at the bottom of your carboy.
At this point it could technically be drunken. But it's best to let it sit 30 more days, and do one more siphon off. After 60 days it's ready to drink and will get even better once bottled( keep in a dark place to preserve the LSA)
Make sure never to let really hot water touch the yeast but I suggest when adding the(natural spring water) that it be around 85degrees( get a temp)

odd, normally when brewing you sterilize the liquid before adding the yeast.

But I've never made wine before, only mead.

definitely two different plants, the white flowering vine is constantly shooting out the large white flowers, ive harvested about 60 of the seeds already, I have yet to see the purple flowering vine make some pods. The leaves on the white flower vine are MUCH larger than the purple flower vine. maybe that can help some one out in helping me ID this.

I love morning glories.. my ten inch plants have leaves almost as big as a mature vine. It's a strong willed plant... does well indoors at a young age.. The ones I kept a bit away from the light put up these really long vines... Maybe I should let it grow all around my room

my morning glory seedlings have 2 leaves each, they are now started to extend again

amazing how fast they germinate if you soak the seeds for 24 hours!
in 2 days i had a 1/2" plant!
