I am so pissed off right now. I just did one of the most horrible things I have ever done. I had to cut my hair. My hair was jus past shoulder length and I had to cut it. You know why? Because of the MAN. The MAN and society are dumb bastards and they made me cut my hair because I need a job. Can't get a job with long hair.
I have been trying to get a job now for months. I have been to numerous interviews and such. Each one turned out the same way. "We will call you in a few days to let you know." And guess what! They never fucking call.
So I decided that I needed a hair cut. I am very sad about this. I had been growing my hair for a while, and I did not want to cut. I hate the way society looks down upon people with long hair. This goes even further than long hair. It goes to pot and shrooms. People think that we here at the shroomery are BAD people, and it is ridiculous.
I just thought I would bitch about this because I am pretty pissed off about it.

All I can say is: I work for Google, one of the largest corporations around these days, and quickly growing too.
I look like this. Every day.
Maybe I got lucky. But maybe you got fooled into thinking you had to do something.

Lots of people with short hair never get called back after multiple interviews......Doesn't mean it was because of your hair.

I had hair down to the middle of my back. I got it cut, and it is HELLA better. I love it.

I wish I was all so fortunate. I am currently in college so I can't have a full time job. That adds to the complications. So I have to work at a store or restaraunt, and most of these places frown on long hair. I wish it wasn't so it makes me very sad.
I am extremely qualified for the jobs that I have been applying for. Some of the interviews went extremely well, and I thought I had the job. But then the bastards would never call. My hair could be the only reason that I did not get any of the jobs.

Depends upon the job. I've met a ton of obese and/or long haired and/or unshowered in several days programmers. It takes an insane kind of individual to camp out in front of a monitor for 10-15 hours at a time nearly every day of his life, so little things like physical appearance don't mean as much as ability. The foreigner programmers they hire to save money usually smell worse and are even more anti-social than the native born ones, although not usually obese (yet!)

Guess I'm a lost cause then. I'm infront of a monitor for about 12 hours a day. Sometimes longer.

You're not interviewing properly. That's your problem, if you wait for your job to call back you aint gonna get shit for a response. Treat EVERY interview as if you were trying to get a CEO job, dress in a suit and tie, wear dress shoes, make sure you're clean shaven if you have long hair, that it looks clean and well kept.
Do an interview with yourself before you hit up the real one, or, schedule a bunch of interviews with jobs you dont really want. You need to be prepared for any question they may ask you, you need to answer it with confidence, and you need to get the point across that this job was meant for you and then tell them why.
After your interview have a period of two BUSINESS days pass, if you dont hear back, FOLLOW UP. If you dont follow up you're not showing ANY desire to work at said organization. Be courteous on the return call, make it known that the reason you're calling is because you really want to work for the company, dont say things like "i havent heard from you guys" or "i was expecting a phone call by now". Point is you need to PROVE an actual desire to be with this company, candiates who are highly motivated and show a desire to do good work are looked at more kindly then people who just need a job. Show desire, prove you are the best for the job, and look like a professional and you can get almost any job you want.
I've been conducting and interviewing in the professional world since i was 15. Ive worked for merryl lynch, johnson and johnson, NJBIA, and GSB in the past. I use the same techniques for those jobs when applying to basic retail and crap jobs. I have been turned down by professional org's before, but it's rare, ive never EVER been turned down for a retail job either.
If you have a decent resume, or at the least a college degree, monster.com is your best friend in this world. It might produce immediate results but i gurantee if you respond to a bunch of ads you will be getting phone calls within a week or two. A good thing to note is if you're truly desperate for cash and have a bunch of good skills, go work for a temp agency!! Nothing wrong with doing temp work and a lot of places have temp to perm positions. And if you dont like the company you're working for you dont have to work for them, the beauty of temping is the flexibility, the negative is that its not steady pay.

Thanks for that info Coda that was gread. And thanks to everyone else too. I will be reaplying everywhere this week. I really need to find a job. I can work full time for a few weeks but then it is back to school. I think that is also part of the problem. An employer looks at my availability and says this isn't going to work. I got to school 4 days a week. 2 of those days are half days, but they don't even want to try to work anything out with me because they can get someone else with better availability.
Another key factor that you have to remember is that I live in Michigan. This state has the shittiest economy and the highest un-employment rate in the U.S. It is hard for everyone to find a job yet alone a college student. I don't know what I am going to do because I ran out of college money and I have bills to pay. I moved here in September and have been looking for a job ever since, and still no luck.
I admit that my strategy was wrong at first but I changed it after the first few interviews. But after those I quickly realized what I had to do. so I started being more prepared for my interviews. LIke I said my last interview went very very well and still no job.
Now my hair is cut off and I am upset about it. I hope I can get a job now. If I don't I am going to be extremely upset. But again. Thanks for the help guys.

I've had hair to my ass and gotten jobs, one was even in sales, when you're
in an interview, you're selling yourself to a company, you are a comodity,
an asset for their company, you have convey that when you speak with an
interviewer. You need to take control of the interview, you need more than
a few yes/no answers to the questions he asks, more importantly, you need to
find out what the company has to offer to you!
Dont be afraid to ask questions, it's one of the things they're looking for
they want you to view it as a career choice, even at McDonalds, they want
someone with long term goals and ambition. If you dont ask, they know you're
just looking for employment and dont want to waste time and money training
you to have you quit 3 weeks later.

this one samoan dude at work had this fro goin, kinda like robots, but more evenly rounded... and it went up too... well like a week ago, he came in wearing a hoddie, and you could kinda see the sides and it's like "man, did he cut his hair?" hard to tell cause he would tie it back sometimes... so then i seen him with his hood down, and short as hell... i asked him why, and he's all "my dad made me cut it" and i was like "dude, how old are you?" (cause he's atlest 20) and he was just like "white people and samoan people are different..." all dissapointed... anyway, it was cause of church
