String Theory

I've got a question about string theory: Is there any conceivable way it could be falsified? I realize it could be supported if we could find evidence of gravitons, but if we don't, then that doesn't mean they don't exist. So with future technological advances, is there any way we could test this theory, or is it "permanently safe" as one skeptic put it? If it can't be tested, can it really be considered a scientific theory?

IT can be tested, it just needs a SHITLOAD of energy.

I love the documentary on it.. But something deep inside me tells me its not exactly what they think.. I dont believe its a string I think its something else but I just dont know what abuncha constantly twisting dougnuts? D:

in 95' scientists came out with what is called the M-theory...which the M stands for 'membrane'...under this new theory which adds on to the previous. It predicts that that there should also be two-dimensional sheets, or membranes and even wierd three dimensional blobs with the pre existing strings...Since the equations used for this particular theory have not even been invented yet or that they are just impossible to understand what the equations mean. This is the reason for the apparent misbelief of the theory...
What is known is that M-theory predicts that we really inhabit a ten-dimensional space (plus the dimension of time to make an 11-dimensional spacetime, and now most recently the 12th). However, six or seven dimensions of space are curled up far smaller than anything that can be accessed with today's particale accelerators. They are trapped within the strings and membranes...
Ever since Gabriele Veneziano in 1968 wrote his first assumptions of this so called string theory...The theory itself has been added and changed into many different forms...
string theory>5 different super string theories>M-theory...
it is just something that we can not grasp or predict with what we have available...only time will tell and new inventions will be created that can prove this theory to become exisistant in today's science...

Actually, no one's quite sure what the hell the M stands for.

well sometimes it's referred to as "mystery" but it is considered "membrane"

Or "matrix." There are several guesses as to what it stands for.

yes ranging from Matrix theory, Muffin theory, Mystery theory, Magic theory, Maker theory, Murky theory, Membrane theory, Monstrous theory, and Mother theory.
But many use the term "membrane" more often because of the theory of p-dimensional dynamic objects, known as the Dp-brane

Maybe its an upside down W, for Witten theory.
