I think they should teach evolution and ID, but really stress theres no realy way of fully proving either. But that would be hard to do because of each teachers individual belief.

So you want to teach biology without evolution...?
That'd be quite a class. "Animals are in these categories. Their genetics have mutations, but there is no evolution. These animals just are, dammit!"
Evolution can be hypothesized on and tested. If the genetics of evolution are true, can we create a mutation in a bacteria that will over time allow it to... whatever you wish. You can look at genes, mutations, reproduction, fossils and come to the logical conclusion using evidence.
Or you can say God did it, despite the lack of any evidence. I prefer evolution.

Evolution is the central theory of biology. To take evolution out of biology class would be like taking atomic theory out of chemistry and going back to the elemental philosophy of fire, air, earth and water.

I love how people say you can't prove evolution like there is some kind of evolutionary smoking gun out there. These ID creationism idiots just stick their fingers in their ears yelling "NAH NAH NAH" anytime you give them evidence of evolution.

Evolution. The rest is not science and does not belong in a science class.

Considering that we have never seen one species evolve into another, I fail to see your point? I suppose that is why it is called the theory of evolution rather than the law of evolution.
> Evolution. The rest is not science and does not belong in a science class.
I agree 100%. However, I have no problem if educators use the evolution vs creationism debate to show the difference between a scientific theory and a non-scientific idea. If the education system wasn't so wrapped up in preventing children from thinking on their own, this whole thing wouldn't be an issue.

"According to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), a scientific theory is 'a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses.' No amount of validation changes a theory into a law, which is a descriptive generalization about nature. So when scientists talk about the theory of evolution--or the atomic theory or the theory of relativity, for that matter--they are not expressing reservations about its truth. "

Yes, that would be perfect. Best thing that educators can do.

Did you read the rest of my post "Like there is some kind of evolutionary smoking gun out there" You obviously can't see evolution take place because it happens over long periods of time but the ID people use this as evidence to say that evolution does not exist. There is tons of circumstantial evidence to support the theory of evolution, fossil records and DNA. There is absolutely no evidence of ID whatsoever.

What motivation do amoebas have?
oh and too add, the government should pull their dicks out our asses. Most of these kids have a legal guardian correct? I am sure they could shed a little light on the subject.

Are you saying we should just abolish school altogether? As long as science is taught in school, I'd say evolution is a crucial part of that.

Nah... just saying some things are best left out of the school system. I think a better way would be, if the subject is brought up by a student, then cool... have a discussion about each theory. But don't teach it actively.
I actually went to Catholic elementary school and we were never taught evolution in the classroom. However we weren't taught about intelligent design either. Creationism was taught but only as symbolism within the context of the Bible. So I and many other kids were left to discover our own ideas about this, and it worked out pretty well.

I was first taught about evolution in 6th grade. I think that's late enough in kids' development that they can start to think critically about these things. I think they should have some familiarity with the subject before they go into High School biology.
